Went AutoXing today

im waiting for allot more people to realize how much more fun it is than dragracing. you should get some coils and shocks/struts
autox is alot of fun. I did the little parking lot cone course so what I didn't like was how "tight" the course was. Definitley alot more demanding of the driver and vehicle which is why I'm not rushing back. Right away I started thinking I need suspension, chassis, brake and tire upgrades. :bang: I just can't go down that road right now (again). Again though, big time fun if you want to really put your skills and car to work. I would love to get out on a real track.

My all time racing dream, aside from driving an F1 car, would be to make a few laps around the Nurburgring in Germany. Now THAT is a racetrack :hail2:
:Word: I'm pretty sure I'd kill myself but that would be the ultimate. Rear drum brakes on the N-ring? I don't think so. lol Even something like Laguna Seca would be really cool. I can see myself going horribly off-track at The Corkscrew now. :rlaugh:

Well, i signed up for another event

Oct 21st!!

Hopefully i can place in the novice class and get a prize :)

Another coworker is going with a Scion TC and he thinks he can outdrive me. We'll see

I was kinda curious if any Oil Pan Mods would be needed to keep from starving the Engine during the Events?

It's a very good idea. I had my oil light on (and a buzzer yells at me if it's on for more than 3 seconds) for any low-speed corner in my RX-7. I thought since it was an RX-7, and I hadn't checked the oil in awhile, it was way down. Borrowed some 5W from a friend, but I checked it first. Completely full.

I thought alot about that and with upgraded brakes and suspension combined with aggressive driving seemed liked it would be possible to starve the Engine.

I was going to try it down in Myrtle Beach during Mustang Week, but after one hard corner and all the rubbing I got with the wheels, I decided with the set up now, it would be dangerous to try. I like any kind of racing, so long as I'm driving.

I would think it would be the long hard sweepers that would cause you the most starvation problems. Perhaps a windage tray and some vertical baffles would be good to keep control of the oil in the pan and also keep it from getting aerated. I think if i were to get seriously into open track stuff...oil control would be a huge concern. I think for auto-x you should be all set.

It finally clicked on why I was thinking about Oil Starvation, Hot Rod Magazine built a Budget Auto'xer a few years back. They used an 85GT and put Cobra Brakes on it and then they snagged an Engine out of a 93, its 1st time out around a really sharp turn it starved for oil and one of the Hyper Pistons exploded into a thousand pieces.

I did autoxing for the firs time this summer working for GM. I got onto the GM autocross team and was able to drive the stock as well as the GXP version of the pontiac solstice. I too am hooked now. I still need to take the stang out for a spin though.

in the mathis (mustang performance II) book he takes a stock oil pan and tack welds a 1.5 " wide strip of sheetmetal around the sump area. this prevents the slosh of oil being moved away from the oil pick up. I just sprung for a canton roadrace pan that works awsome. The hyper piston exploding more than likley was caused by somthing else. the pistons are oiled in the cylinder by splash from the crank. if you starve the pick up you will score the bearings possibly resulting in a spun bearing.
P.S. If you want to mod your car for autox get the mathis book he covers the fox suspension mods that make it perform.

My next event is Sunday. In preparation, I have repacked my differential and installed Cobra front brakes. Holy hell does this thing stop well. I think when I had the 95 gt spec calipers on I had air in the lines because my pedal was a little mushy. Used my Motive bleeder today on the cobra setup and I have about an inch or so of travel before my head hits the windshield.

Of course, none of this will help until I tighten the nut behind the wheel.

flesh fluid plays a roll too. You are supposed to bleed brakes every 2 years...1 year preferably. Nobody does it.

I do mine yearly and feel a HUGE difference. I gotta do them again before my event the 21st
