Went to the dyno today... odd results..

Hi guys,

I took the car down to the dyno today for a power/torque test.

the spec of the car is in my sig..

I only managed to pull 270hp at 5500 and 300ft/lbs at 4000 at the crank...

that was like 250hp at the wheels or so....

that cant be right can it ?

something isnt adding up.. any ideas? the car drives perfectly on the road

if as i read before he might have the stock UD pullies with the paxton it might not be far off, considering he would be running under 10 lbs of boost and the UD pullies dropping it down to what, close to 3?

if the blower is not on thenit looks about right with what little saleen does to the block. i think a boost gague would help diagnose this situation.

sorry, i should have included some more details i guess

the paxton sn2000 blower has a smaller pulley, the boost gauge shows 9 psi...

the car is a '96 so that means i got the crappy heads and cams and relating intake manifold...

the block and internals are stock and the afr shows a safe figure at all times, no pinking anywhere..

i guess with a 215 hp '96 gt 9psi is only gonna jump you to 280 ish anyway ?

just spent the last hour staring at MPH's website... what time do they open anyhow, im gonna give them a call to see what we can put together...

but isnt a 99 gt way better than a 96, heads, cam and intake wise, that sounds about right to me with bolt ons..

as for the dyno type, i dont know to be honest, is there an easy way to tell from looking ? It had 2 pairs of rollers sunk in to the floor as opposed to the raised rollers that i see you guys over there seem to use a lot

Something is wrong here. A dyno generally measures the wheel horsepower, not crank. So, you probably are throwing 270rwhp. This is pretty standard even with a Vortech with the original 96-98GT heads.

i know that the dyno does measure whell hp but then our dynos calculate the losses through the transmission on the run down and add those on top to give you an engine figure, dont ask me why they do that, id rather have the wheel figure too, as its more useful.. i think i saw it was near 250rwhp but it doesnt print on the graph..

i think it looks about right for a blown 96

Do you have a print out of the dyno? It may say what type of dyno? Where did you get it done? THeir website may say also.

that could also be a huge difference. friend of mine kept looking for a pugeot 206 and kept finding these really off numbers for power and he couldnt understand why... there is just a difference in measurement and calculations. see if you can track down a dyno with american calculations, or see if you can track down the calcuations themselves.... i cant remember where i found them before but it was a real eye opener.

though, even being a 96 i still dont see it dynoing that low.... paxton 2000 with smaller pully running the same as a bolt on 99+ i dont buy it, you should at least break 300 to the wheels.

a couple others i think might attribute to it: i see that you have 3.73 gears. i have heard many places that changing to a steeper gear will throw off your power measurements for some reason. i am sure someone knows the phenomenon better than i do. also, as stated before the injector size seems a bit low. i remember people saying they were using 42lb injectors with novi 2000s, so i dunno if that could be it or not.

I just spoke to a guy named Tim over at MPH... he's doing a kenne bell 2.2 on a 96 gt in he next month or so, he's gonna see how that works out..

i think im gonna go for their 302 forged shortblock, stage 2 heads (i think thats what he said) cams and a kenne bell 2.2 at either 15 or 21 psi (he says the block will cope with 35!!!) that with a t56 should see 700rwhp :D and i'd be a happy bunny ........

plus id need more fuel and air....

better start with the saving...
