I ran a 15.40 @ 90.12 MPH 2.18 60ft.(and another 15.4 @ 89 w/ 2.2 60ft) I am still having some traction problems, although the conditions at my track are getting better due to new ownership. There aren't a lot of slick cars running to lay any rubber down either. I am fairly satisfied with the times and I know once I can hook I should get her down in the 14's... . .I started getting wheel hop tonight(first time it started this) as I was running 20psi in the nittos and trying to feather the clutch out, but as I was feeding it out it would just grab and that's all she wrote. The tires would hook and then unload wreaking havoc. I also noticed that my car would puff out a bit of smoke - the oil kind:( I will be checking the plugs tomorrow to see how bad it is. It's not constant but it seems to do it when it's at running temp. Maybe it's time for a new shortblock  I hope I'm not losing power because of it, the car feels real strong and it doesn't miss or run flat. Oh, I banged the rev limiter a few times tonight in second due to a bit of wheelspin that came on after the shift and when I got into the powerband. Oh well.
Any suggestions?? I know this car should be running a bit quicker. . . . . .

Let's check here: Are you are running 15.40 with 4.10? You most definetly getting into traction issues. I ran a 14.3 with factory 3.27 gears, o/r h-pipe and bassani catback, MAC CAI with the darkwolf mod. Just recently I added the Comp 268H cams and will be putting on the PI intake, and with this hopefully be an easy 13 second car. I would say just practice on your launches and shifts to get those times down. Your car should be in the 14s.

i'm going to the track today if the weather holds off..last time i ran a 14.2 with bad reaction times and not bringing the rpms up to launch(took off like i was from a light). I'm hoping for mid 13 pass with the gears and that installed now and actually launching and getting better r/t's

I hit the track lastnight for the first time. I had a best of 15.1 @94mph. Lots of spin out of first. My reaction time was .74 and my 60ft. was 2.1. I raced 6 times and my last was my best. Motor's stock except for the CAI. Any suggestions on car upgrades and driver improvements? And take it easy, it was my first time on a 1/4 mile track.

pay absolutely NO attention to reaction time, it DOES NOT effect your E.T. you could have a 10 second reaction time & still run a 14.2. the timer doesn't start until you move, not when the tree goes down :nice:

At first when i looked at the sig i thought that you had all of those parts already... that would have been horrible ;)

Though, just work on the launch and you'll dig into the 14s.

oh i though the timer went when the light goes green and your reaction time hurts your times

Nope, you can sit at the lights and fiddle with the radio stations, and you can still run a faster ET than the other guy. Your reaction time is just how long it takes you to move once the light turns green. When you move, then your ET starts

Do you have 2 96 GT's??? Because the one thats in your sig should be running mid to low 13's even with non-pi heads. how in the hell are you running 15.4's?

Edit - OHHHHH I see the bottom half is not mods you already have. I suggest getting PI heads BEFORE wasting money on cams. It wont help you much without better flowing heads. Still should be running low to mid 14's.

Is this about average??? [email protected]

This was my first time out and I got in 5 runs and thought I was doing alright. But my last and best time was [email protected]. With nothing but what you see in my sig. Should I be worried I'm not getting closer to 13's or is this a pretty average time for the 99GT's.
I know alot of it depends on the driver but I was shifting hard, scratching through 3rd and hitting 4th about 200 feet before the finish.
My best 60' time was also on my last run at 2.113

Your trap speed is way low, 90mph? Stock your car should be trapping mid 90's I think your car is having issues, and traction is not a major problem a 2.2 60' on drag radials is not that bad. Your losing power somewhere down the track and that would account for you low trap speed.

Um, my 97 cavalier Z24 with no mods at all ran a best of 15.714.

Buy a 99+ GT

I don't like this mentality at all. :nonono:

Maybe he doesn't want/like the 99-04 GT. Or maybe he can't afford to buy one. Why is it when someone asks a question and they have a 96-98 GT, someone finds it necassary to tell him to dump his car and buy a 99-04 GT? IT'S INSULTING! We don't tell you to go buy a Cobra when you question your times at the track.

All you do is create dissention among the rank and file Mustang owners. It's creating a rift in the community as a whole. You're a Mustang snob. We don't have what you have, so as far as you are concerned it's no good. :bang:

This pisses me off and I see it more and more.

Yeah, I think it might be the C&L again as well as the weather, it was around 80* with 70+ humidity and I think the baro was like 29. . .I put a stock meter
back in and we'll see how it works this weekend. I need to get into the 14's before I get my heads swap done. . ..Oh and I have the regular ole 555's, no DR's yet:(

You should get 2.2's with regular radials. 2.2 with drag radials is not too good. How are you heating them up? There are 2 camps of thought on heating them up. First is the just get them to barely smoke and the other is smoke the hell out of them. I found the smoke the hell out of them method worked best for my other GT (90 Vert). My best drag radial 60' foot with the vert was 1.90, which still isn't great.

If you feathered the clutch and the tires just grabbed. Launch harder (ie..more revs).

I am going to Ennis so traction should be leaps and bounds over this local track and hopefully some better weather. My traction seems to go south once I'm off the line and the car comes up in revs and when I hit second.
