well i took my baby out to the track last night with high hopes and i am a little dissapointed but ill live. it was about 81 degrees partly cloudy and low humidity.

i have all the mods in my sig plus back seat removed. p.s. SFC's not installed
yokohoma avs es100 275/45/17 rear 255 front (rear at 27.5 pouns, front at 35)

this was also my first dragstrip run ever so most of my rpoblems are driver not car but i will post anyway. shifting ay 6000 rpm

First run i spun alot!! not too much out of first but all the way through second i ran a 14.9

lower tire pressure then got a 14.5

drop shock stiffness in rear then got a 14.3

babied the clucth into second but kept it floored whenever i felt i had traction and i got my best time 14.0

WTF??? so whats my problem i hope i can bring it down some by practice and getting better at driving it.

I realize i have no tracion mods yet and my best 60' was 1.9 best r/t .134 but most were .3~

how much time can i expect to pick up with more practice??
what mods are next to improve the cars times??
what other stratigies or hint can you provide when going to the track??

also the car feels like it has a ton of power after installing all my parts but im sure sure by feel i am thinking of getting a dyno tune it cost $75 an hour is this a good price and should i do this to improve my time??

Before you get a dyno tune and put more money into it you need to practice practice practice.

My 93 AOD vert with a stock stall converter goes 14.0s at 100 NA. So your combo should go much faster.

Practice your launch and get your 60' down as low as you can, the 1.9 isn't too bad. From there you just have to practice what RPM to shift at. I am sure that others will have some suggestions where to start.

It would be nice to get a dyno done and you can look at the graph and see where the car is making power and where its not and you can kinda get an idea on the proper rpm to shift at for your car.

so what was the highest mph trap speed of the night?
Try some slicks next, that should bring your times down by quit a bit.

99.43 mph, im a little weary of slicks i still have stock 4 lug axles and stock trans...
maybe some drag radials or semi slicks or something.

but i should be running faster than this right?? tell me it's just me... i can improve but im out of money so the car really cant...

you can improve, you should be in low 13s if not high 12s. what rpm are you shifting at? What is your timing?

just like it was said earlier, practice,practice. When my vert was NA there was one year I had no money to spend on parts, but I kept going to the track. I went from running 14.0's to 13.5's with just better driving.

ya you should be way faster. my lx went 14.1 @97 with a cold air intake and pullies. You had a decent 60'. Im no expert but you mph seems really low.

yeah stock axles and slicks dont mix very well.

Pratice is the key but a good set of tires will help. Drag radials is my advice but if you run on street tires keep the psi higher. Radial tires are not designed to run on lower pressure due to the stiff sidewalls.

i was shifting right at 6k i think i might try to push that a bit more... i had the whole top end rebuilt when i did the HCI (rods, cam bearings, lifeters, etc) so where should i be shifting??
SHould i get an aftermarket tach in case mine is off??

i was tempted to get one of the guys from the pro sportsman class to take my car a couple runs to see what he could do with it... however he won't know the car so i didn't do it.

i was running about 27 lbs on a 275/45/17 tire i just did the shoe polish method

THis is also why i wanted to have it dyno'ed the shop that put all this together was a engine building shop but timing and tuning not so good there is deff a huge difference over stock but i dont know by feel if its where i should be

i ran a 14.0 at 99 how is that low look at yours....

99 mph is low, but have no fear, there are always things to work out when you go to the track for the first time. Your best bet is practice. I personally have spent a lot of time at the track and know if you want to go fast you have to work for it! Driving style alone can take a second off a cars time!

The stock tach is pretty well known for not being accurate, usually down low its too low, and up high its too high. Take it to the dyno, and see what the tach on the dyno says compared to the one in your car. Also you can see where your making all your power at, which in turn will help you determine where to shift.

There is something wrong with your car. Take it to the dyno and see whats up. It should be trapping at least 103-105 even running 14's. Something is not right in the tune or build.

For referance my old gt made about the same power you should be 290/320 I went 14.515 @ 104.2 with a 2.606 60'. It was on hard ass exsta's with no track prep. But that should give you an idea.

Low MPH for sure...I'm willing to bet your peak HP numbers are in the low 5000-5500 range, IMO your pushing the car to high..and on the stock tach I couldn't even guess where you're REALLY shifting at. My car like most 302/306 mild H/C/I cars will peak around 5500 or just under, it may feel like it's still pulling strong, but fact is my dyno sheets say to move the shifter at 5500.

ok well sometime in the next month ill get up and do a dyno tune hopefully its just tuned wrong or something..... also i still have stock fuel pump injectors and maf so those will get replaced sometime along with some traction.

shifting to high ok ill believe that. ill see how far of my tach is when i dyno it maybe thats a problem to...

thanks for all your help i think there are a total of 10 days left till the track closes for the year so ill try and make to all of those days and hopefully something changes.

Definitely upgrade the fuel pump, and injectors along with an 80mm maf and power pipe. Even with bad traction you should be in the 13's with decent driving as is!! Practice,Practice,Practice!!!

That mph is way low for your car with those mods. Personally I would go back and play with the shift points and see if overreving it was killing your mph. You should be around 103-105 liek said above. If it doesn't really pick up somethings wrong. You can practice times all day but the mph tells the story of how much power your making.

I would upgrade to 24's and a bigger fuel pump before you get a dyno. Not sure if I saw a AFPR but get one of those too.
