Went To Track After Major Upgrades...Disappointed!

A few weeks ago I went to the track (1/8th Mile) to get a baseline on where my car was running.

Bone stock and original suspension on 15" BF Goodrich Comp T/A Drag Radials the car ran 8.1's.

After a full suspension upgrade; subframes, upper/lower control arms, shocks, struts, removing the front sway bar, 31 spline axles, running on 17" Nitto 555R Drag Radials the car ran a best 8.3 and was mostly running 8.6's.

Now, track temperature sucked, ambient was 55* and everyone was complaining about the track being slippery.

My question is how much does the track play into E.T.'s? Also, without doing a huge burnout the BFG's hook WAY better than the Nittos. Does having 15" wheels help better at the track than 17"?

I'm not a lousy driver either, I almost always run within a tenth and a half. I'm just frustrated becuase I expected my times to drop by two tenths, not go up by five.

Thanks for your thoughts and ideas. Later.

You'll probably have to relearn how to launch with your new setup. You may need to tune the setup a little bit too.

Track temp, air temp, freshness of traction compound and driver behaviors can all severly affect times. Add them all together and crazy things can happen. Weather can play a huge roll in all of it too.

If everyone felt the track was "slippery", I'd not worry about the times you ran. You'll probably find track conditions played a significant roll in your times. Don't pass judgment till track conditions are similar to what they were when you did your base run.

What's your speed when you're at the end? Give more of the results and I'm sure some people here can use that info to tell you what went wrong... to a certain point.

Yeah liek what were your 60 foot times when you ran the baseline runs and what were your 60 foot times after the mods?

I beileve the 17inch rims to play an effect on the performance of how your car is going to hook up. Now maybe the weight tranfer is slowing your car down. My brother had the same problem. As a matter of fact his car was way faster with eibach sportline springs than with the drag launch springs.

Well, I left the timeslips at my friends house after the track. I'll swing by and grab them tonight. But the 60' times went from 1.8, 1.9.s (before new suspension) to 2.0-2.2's. I can't quite remeber the MPH. I just know that I was spinning all the way until 3rd gear. I'm looking at a line lock as my next mod. Maybe draglites and slicks too.

Sounds like the track didn't have any traction to give.

Dude!! I just noticed you're in Buffalo and that you ran at Lancaster. Do you run the MOM's races at Leicester (45 minutes East of Buffalo)? First race of the season is the 27th.

I had stock suspension with MM Subframes, KYB Struts/shocks, and deleted front swaybar to a full drag suspension and my times got more consistant, but not any better. IOW, predictibility went up, but otherwise I wasn't getting crap. I had issues with the traction-loc, but fixed it, then I was getting 1.8 60's consistantly but I still couldnt' launch hard, 40 series sidewalls jsut don't have the give. I now have Welds to play with..... can't wait to get some nice stickies on them.
