So today my friend and I take his 90 LX 5.0 to the exhaust shop to get the final phase of his mods done. Two and a half weeks ago we put ported GT40P heads, ported explorer intake, and a cam in. Today it was a new o/r x-pipe, weld in dynomax race bullets and dumps. It sounded sAfter we picked it up, we took it back up the the auto supply we both work at to show it off. As soon as he pulled into the parking lot, the unexpected happened. His car caught fire. We grabbed the fire extinguishers and put it out, but not before it toasted the wiring harness and other miscellaneous stuff. It was a real bummer. I loaned him my old ranger to get him by til we get it fixed. I was was gonna take my 04 gt to the same shop tomorrow to get my x pipe installed with new mufflers but now I am nervous. Its impossible to say that it was caused by the exhaust shop, but it was a really freaky coincidence.

i'd suspect the shop too, it is catless tho - cuz usually the cats catch stuff on fire being as hot as they are. Maybe they didnt zip tie stuff outta the way? Do the pipe yourself

Thats my thoughts. Yes, his pipe is catless, and mine is too, after the fire department left, we spend alot of time examining it, but we couldnt see anything, but it was dark and we were really upset. We will give it a more thorough going over tomorrow.

Its possible that it burned the 02 sensor wires, but it would have to be on fire for a little while to make its way to the wiring harness. I dont see what else the exhaust could have burned.

Sell it in the newspaper under the title "this car is HOT!!!"

Get a fireman to identify the cause. Then file a lawsuit against hte shop. Good luck.
