hey guys im also putting together a roller 347 and im just wondering what most of your track times and HP ratings are. i know everyone has a different setup but i would like to see what mine might be in a ball park figure. or maybe you can tell me what i can expect from my setup
347, AFR 185cc heads 56cc, 1.6 roller rockers, comp cam-- intake .536 exhaust .544, holley 600cfm carb, performer rpm intake, hooker long tubes,

I'm sure Vinyl66 will jump in as we race together and he has about the same combo as yours. I'm turning high 13's and he blows me off the track. It will depend though on your gearing and suspension set up. A good set up is worth it's wait in gold, I learned that first had. :nice:

My 347 uses a roller block as well but I am still using a relatively small hydraulic flat tappet cam in mine. One day I will get around to putting a nice roller cam in though. It should pick up torque and hp throughout the rpm range.

Your combo is very similar to mine.
I am using the same AFR 185 heads but with 60cc (extra compression for you will be nice)
1.6 roller rockers
XE274H comp cam (what are the duration #'s on your cam at .050"?)
650 Demon (I very much want to try a 750DP over my vacuum 650)
Vic. Jr intake (picked up 2.5mph over previous Pro Products Air Gap)
Hooker long tubes
2.5" exhaust with Flowmasters (may go to 3" down the road)
3.55 gears (what gear ratio do you have?)

In November I was running consistent high 11's on 235 drag radials. I had one run of 11.87 and another run of 11.88 that night. That was with weak 1.74 60 foot times. I am going to work on getting my 60's in the 1.6's where they need to be and I should be able to drop another tenth or more.

It looks like you have a nice street/strip combo. I found it much more difficult hooking up at the track with the 347 over the old 302. If you can't hook you will be dissapointed in your times. I didn't have to do anything suspension wise besides change rear tires at the track to get my 302 to hook up. I have yet to hook up the 347 on a full throttle launch.

the duration of my cam at .050 is 224 intake 230 exhaust. i do not have the gearing i want right now so that might hurt me, i still have the stock 8inch rear with what ever gears come in a 1966 289 3 speed manual. it is now a C4 trans tho. i have traction bars but i know that wont make a difference with the torque the 347 will push out. so would it be safe to say i will be in the high 11's low 12's with what i have now? the car will be on NOS also but not for about 6 months. but when it does go on the bottle it will be a 150 shot. tires,,,,, well on my old fox body i loved the MT sportsman pro's so i will go that route too.

Nice times. What were your trap speeds if I may ask?

Thanks. My 1/8 mile speeds are 92mph. My quarter mile speeds are 112mph.
I hope to try a 750 carb sometime this year to see if my 650 is a restriction to the engine. I hope it is:D

I realize the 3.55 gears are not close to optimum for my combo but they keep the rpm's down on the street. They may get changed out one day.

Your cam is very close to the size of mine. Stock gearing will greatly hurt your times. I believe stock gearing was 2.79 in my car. Great for the highway but horrible for acceleration. If you want to be quick swap out that gear!
Your mph may be there at the track but your et's will suffer being under geared.

As far as tires go, I really like my little Mickey Thompson Drag Radials but if I had to do it again I would go with a 9" slick. Traction is king at the strip. WashMo runs a 9" slick, I believe, and runs bottom 11's. If you plan to use nitrous off the line then get slicks for sure. As well as upgrading the 8" rear. It will not like all that torque.

yah i know this 8 inch will not hold up but im going to just use it until i see it rolling around in my rear view mirror hahahaha. there is a place next to my house called mustang village and he told me he has 1967 mustang 9 inch rear ends that will bolt right in to my car for 650$ not to sure what the gears are in it. do you see my 600cfm holley being to small? im so so so close to haing this car on the road! i was told i would make over 400 rwhp but i know how that goes.

I am still using an 8" rear in mine. I did stud the pinion support and used hardened washers and lock nuts for extra reliability. I also use a Detroit locker which is one of the strongest and most durable lockers out there. I love it.

So far I have many 1.7x 60 footers with a best of 1.69 on it. I have a light car with an automatic which helps parts live. But I am not using nitrous off the line. It would definitely be fun but it would be MUCH more apt to break something. A 9" would be a great idea using nitrous.

I see your Holley 600 as being a bottleneck. That is a good size carb for a 302 but a 347 needs more carb. That's why I will hopefully be trying a 750 this year because I think my 650 is a bottleneck on mine. I am also a big believer in a Vic. Jr intake on a 347. The advertised rpm range on a 289/302 intake is not the same range on a heavy breathing 347.

hey vinyl66 wile im at it i have another question for you,,, i have my c4 but its not yet bolted up and i know i need a trans cooler, well how do you have your trans cooler line ran? is it soft line coming out of trans and cooler and hard line in between? also what size cooler should i run? i have the TCI super streetfighter
C4.

Get a GOOD stacked plate transmission cooler. A big one too. I got one similar to this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TRU-...4QQihZ011QQcategoryZ33727QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

It takes up a very large portion on the front of my radiator but keeping an automatic cool is VERY important.

I have one hard line from the transmission to the radiator transmission cooler(in my aluminum radiator)/ then a rubber line from the outlet of the radiator to the aftermarket trans cooler/
then another rubber line from the other side of the aftermarket trans cooler back to the stock hard line going back to the transmission.

I hope that is easier to read than it was to type.:D
There is probably no reason to use the transmission cooler in the radiator if you use a good aftermarket trans cooler but this is the way I originally hooked mine up and it works fine.

If you have a transbrake I would recommend using braided or a hard line to you cooler as the line pressure is increased.

I have a cooler mounted in front of my radiator and two braided going back to my PA super comp.

i ran my best time and 60' with the 650dp. since i changed to the 750 proform i can't get my 60' down below 1.8 and my time below 7.7 but my MPH went up to 90.85 . i recently purchased caltracs and some racho adjustable shocks to help get my 60' down but still trying to get the right suspension combination put together .
