What wheel back spacing and rim width do you use on your 5.0? I want Weld Draglites-- I guess 3.5" or 4" skinnies for the front and my slicks are 26/8.5 . Got pics?

Thanks,
Cody

Here's mine.. skinnies up front (3.5 backspacing), 15x8's (4.5 backspacing) in the back with 295/50's..will be switching to 15x10's with 295/65 BFG drag radials so I can switch to 4.10's :D

You sure you're going to run a 30" tire on there?

Anyway, for your 10" rims I'd run 6.5" BS. I like to have the rims tucked underneath -- that's why I like 5.5" BS on 8 and 9" rims as well.

well I already tucked in my fenderwells, removed the quad shocks & I also have air bags, so I'm not worried about clearance..the airbags are completely deflated in the pic & I still have plenty room. I'll probably go with a 5.5" backspacing..I don't mind the aggresive look with the tires sticking out a little. Plus I want to go with a tall tire to compensate for the high gears when I go with 4.10's since I have a C4.

edit: I forgot to mention that since I did the C4 swap, I had to use a longer driveshaft & that jacked up my rear-end even more.

I was talking about clearance from the fender lips to the tire. Your car must not squat at all when you launch -- all the cars I've had with 26" tires either come close or rub on the fenderlips, and you're running about a 26.5" tire -- that's why I like them tucked in as much as possible (other than the look). Most cars that would run a bigger tire would find a 28" tire and be fine, a 30" tire I don't know how you would really fit without fenderwell modifications with the widths they come in. BTW -- I'm running 4.30's and deciding between a 26" tire and a 28" tire (I have 26" tires right now).

Oh, about the driveshaft -- there's no reason why a longer or shorter driveshaft would change the height of the car, I think you're mistaken there. The driveshaft has nothing to do with suspension height.

I was wondering about the driveshaft statement myself, what makes you think it effected your ride height?

For the 7" rim, 4.5" BS is as close as you can get -- but be aware you may have some clearance problems between the caliper (bolts) and the wheel -- the welds don't have alot of room inside. It's not a huge deal, grinding a little on the bolt will fix it.

Stock size tires would be 225/60-15...you can run that up front or a little skinnier tire like a 215/65 or so. The back you can run a 265/50 or a 275/50 and it will work well and fit nice.

Again, in the back you may have some clearance issues, but it will be between the exhaust and/or quad shocks. Just a little adjustment or flipping the shocks will fix it.

They may fit right on, they may need a little adjustment -- I've had them go both ways.

I GOT 83 GT WITH 15X10 IN REAR WITH 6.5 BACKSPACE..WILL TRY TO POST A PIC ,,IF I KNOW HOW?????? I GOT HOOSIERS 27X11.50X15 ON REAR....BUT IF YOU GOT 26X8.5 TIRES I WOULD GO WITH 5.5 B/S WITH 8 IN RIM..SORRY PICS TO BIG....

You can use paint to shrink the heck out of any pic. Go to image, stretch/skew. Then keep the horizontal and vertical at the same ratio. 30% will likely get you there. Dont forget to save a copy so you can have a full size and mini-me version.

A guy I know was running 4.10's with a 28" tire and it was bogging the hell out of the motor till it was running up top. If your going to go that tall 4.30-4.56 would be my choice. But if it's to kill some gear for the street that would be a good move. Oh! with the 295's are you running dumps? Later and be safe.

Yeah my car doesn't squat that much, I have stock suspension out back minus quad shocks. Well I probably would go with a 6.5 backspacing to play it safe, my fernderwells are rolled back about 50%, I would roll them back all the way before running bigger tires. Where did you get the 4.30's from?..see below about d/s.

I guess I could be wrong about the driveshaft, but before the install my tires would slightly rub against my fenderwells with the airbags deflated, but now even with them deflated I still have enough clearance to not rub  ..anyone have any other explanation, I'd be glad to hear it..

I don't know about that low of a gear..I might consider 4.30's. I have a C4 (no overdrive), & the car is street driven quite a bit..Yes, I'm running dumps & I also removed my quad shocks.

I got mine from Summit -- I think I might have had them price match Diversified when I got a bunch of stuff from them last time. They're a standard FMS gear.
cool, thanks..I might have to try them out. guess I never noticed them before coz I never considered putting them on my car.

edit: nice ride! you sold it?? whyyyy? :)
