what cam is best?

ok, i know this is a newb question, and i tried searching already, there is just too much stuff to read through to find the answer...im planning on picking up a few parts from a local guy, all used, gt40 heads (complete iron heads) with upgraded springs (he says good to .500 lift) and 1.6 fms rockers, cobra upper and lower intake w/ 1"spacer, 24lb injectors w/matching mass air meter and 65 mm tb, im wondering what cam would be best for this setup, its going to be mainly a street car, it will probly see 5-6 weekends of racing each year, any imput would be apreciated, thanks

btw, its all goin in a 90 lx w/ a stock 302

First of all , GT40 irons come with springs rated for .540" lift off of the cobra's and lightning's. I think the P's from the Mountineer and Explorer trucks also had the same spring package. So I wouln't go with a cam any bigger than .520" lift. If he truely upgraded his springs I would make sure which springs he installed. Going from .540" to .500" springs would not be a upgrade.

Whats the best cam? Your cam, aka custom cam. Other then that Ive heard from many people on this site and other sites that the TFS stage 1 cam is a great cam, with some gears pulls pretty good downlow, and pulls HARD around 3k. For the price its a great deal imo, if your looking for an off the shelf cam.

Oh and new valve springs are cheap, get some that work with your cam.
