I'm curious why i never seem to hear many of you guys running comp cam grinds? what about a XE274HR? is it to much cam? http://www.compcams.com/technical/Catalogs/106-07/72-75_230.pdf
some nice info on comps cams for the 5.0L

I ran that cam in my 331 for like 3-4 years. I pulls really nice. only reason that i switched it was because that Rick91gt suggested that was the thing keeping me from obtaining my goals.
but as for the case above, yes, its too much cam. for that cam, you either need a set of ported iron heads or good flowing aluminum heads. also, his case is asking for basic cams, the xe274 is a few steps ahead of those choices.

bc the stock cam is a nice piece.

getting a big ol cam sort of takes away the fun

you lose the low end torque the 5.0s are know for and get higer power.

you will have to rev it high to go faster.

if the stock cam is so nice, why didnt you keep it with your new engine? your gonna have to rev that B cam higher than stock to get your power out of it.

I have the TFS stage-1, and like it!!! no idle problems, sounds good at idle , no bucking, good low end power and up, the stock cam is also alot better than some people might think

yeah lol sometimes i wish i kept the stock cam in.

then it would be virtually unchanged. would look and sound exactly like b4

do this for us, if you chose a diff cam over stock, first go to the dragstrip and get some numbers, then go back to the dragstrip after the cam swap, and post your numbers before and after

thats a perfect idea. you just have to make surethat you dont change anything else though, just the cam!

i would but im doing the whole h/c/i at the same time Do i need to get larger injectors or do you think i can get by just increasing the fuel pressure and do you guys think i could hit a high 12 with this set up?
thanks alot

you may want to go 1.6 rr's to be safe, that's what I've read everywhere when you're running a cam.

My bro and I built similar motors, his a gt40 explorer engine, mine a gt40p explorer engine. We both got them running within a week of each other.

I went with the stock HO cam, and he the tfs stage 1 cam.

My car fires up, idles like stock, sounds like stock. Perhaps a little deeper more powerful sound, but not by much if anything.

His fires up and has this wicked lope to it and sounds like a fully built engine.

In reality we're likely super close to the same power levels, but his sure sounds good.

I'm going to test it with my stock cam, dyno it, get a few runs in, then swap to a good cam and see how much of a difference it makes over the HO cam. I think it may not be a whole lot, but we'll see.
