What can a stock rear end hold up to?

Im going to the track this weekend with a stock rear end and 3.73s. Should i be worried about it breaking? I dont have drag radials or anything just street tires and engine mods are in my sig. What did it take to break yalls rear ends?

With out sticky tires you will be fine.

I had a stock rear with 3.73 behind my 347 stroker and never had any issues even with drag radials.

**** man you have nothing to worry about me and my brother found that 8.8 rears are practically bullet proof. he has a 550hp or around that, notch like mine but its 10 times nicer. he ran a 10.1 on et streets and that rear shows no signs of braking. o and yes its a stock rear/suspension car. :nice:

You will be fine with street tires. But some people have good luck, and some people like me have bad. The owner before me put 37k VERY gentle miles on mine and I broke an axle on the second pass ever at the track with a stock motor.

Yea you dont have to worry about anything, on slicks some people would tell you, you may need to worry but I dont even think so. I ran ET Street slicks for about a year when I went to the track like once a month, and never had a problem. The stock rear end isn't very strong but it'll take at least some horsepower and a good hook to break an axle. I dont think it takes good luck to not break and axle, but it takes some real bad like TO break it if your stock on street tires.

Its gonna be interesting to see where this goes....IMO, You have nothing to worry about with or without slicks with your mods. The tranny will go before the rear. I have never had a rear problem except for the trac-lok.

My tranny did go before my rear haha. But they both went out with a bang in a very short period of time behind a stock motor!! I guess I just drive it like I hate it.

I know at least 3 guys first hand who have broke factory axles on drag radials with cars running 12.5-13.5 in the 1/4. I think factory Ford axles are hit and miss. If you're running something like a Moser 28 spline on an 8.8, you could probably run 10s or 11s with no worries. Like I said, factory 28 spline axles are just weak for some.

i'm going to swap out my stock 4 lug axles for some after market 5 lug ones soon. is it worth the trouble to put a few tacks on the tubes where they're pressed into the center housing? i saw where a track car in a magazine cracked a tube loose. this was a car that ran 10's all day long.
