My car has been making a weird noise. It started off as a low cricket sound, then it has elevated to a LOUDER sound. It makes it when it's idle, or when im driving. It shows up only when it wants to, so theres no pattern ive noticed. Sometimes it sounds like its GRINDING. What can it be? Does an alternator make a sound when its about to die? I ask this because i noticed a big chunk of the black grill around it broken. I'de take a pic, but my camera decided to break on me last week.

Any suggestions? my dad and i are stumped :(

check ur oil level lately?? sticky piston maybe?
oil is fine, checked the tranny oil too. i changed my ds to the new aluminum one i had as well. checked for anything loose everywhere, but nothing. i took it out a while ago to pick up my ferret food, and that noise got louder and more frequent. i wish i had something to record it with. it's pissing me off:mad:

belt? or bearing if you ask me? watch the alternator.
belt, my dad told me to change it, and i need to, it has small cracks on it. but can it really be that bad as to cause this? and the alternator, yeah, im watching that thing, even more so after seeing the broken stuff on it.

yeah i have the cricket noise too. there was a thread about this allready i think. No one came up with a solution. On mine it is coming from the rear of the car. sucks. It's only when i'm moving though that i hear it.
