I've got a 96GT that a coolant line back by the throttle body just exploded on, coolant everywhere, but it was orange. I read somewhere that orange wasn't what they even use and it was just the standard green. I'm going to flush it all out since I had to mix some green coolant and lots of water in there just to get me home without being a major PITA, but i'm wondering what I should put back in after its flushed?

orange is dex-cool that gm used after 96. its a long life coolant that really sucks and gums up bad. you should put the standard green back in and make sure no one (including yourself) puts orange back in. the different stuff will eat your waterpump up.

green always, my neighbor is a mechanic for the county i live in and he said he has seen more headgaskets ruined from the orange coolant than the green by far. Stay away from the orange...

Green, it is clearly marked on the radiator cap BTW... Whoever put orange in is a f'k-tard :notnice:

My car came with orange in it, I believe in the manual it tells you to put dextron 5 in there which is the Orange stuff... No problems here. I heard, and i could be wrong, that if u mix the 2 very bad things happen, like they react and leave residue in the coolant system, but maybe i dreampt that.

IF YOU MIX ORANGE AND GREEN, THEY WILL TURN TO A JELLY AND F EVERYTHING OFF. :damnit: ORANGE IS BETTER, IT HAS A HIGHER BOIL AND A LOWER FREEZE POINT THAN GREEN, AND IT'S MADE TO LAST LONGER. :owned: THE REASON IT CLOGS, IS THESE GUYS THAT CAME W/ GREEN, CHANGED TO ORANGE W/OUT FLUSHING THE ENTIRE SYSTEM. HENCE CAUSING THE JELLY TO CLOG THEIR S***. :fuss:

Not true. Take a GM vehicle with Dex-Cool from the factory, go the recommended 100,000 miles before changing it, & it'll look like pudding in your radiator, assuming you haven't already had to replace your water pump because the vanes were eaten away to nothing. Manufacturers are starting to back the 100,000 mile recommendation down to 60k becaue it doesn't last like they thought it would.

From a maintenance standpoint, stay on top of your coolant system condition & don't waste the money on the long life crap.

Well, considering I have had several Z71's, and a T/A that came from the factory with dex-cool, have all lasted 200,000-250,000 miles a piece, and never had any cooling problems at all... I call :bs:
[I bought a ford:(]
You Ford boys should do a little more research. :bang: <--- Ford guy

P.S.: But I do agree you should stay on top of your cooling status and not worry so much about how many miles you can get out of your antifreeze, because if your anything like me and upgrade performance parts more often than your underwear, then your probably constantly adding to your cooling system anyway.

In my car manual it says: "Use Ford Premium Engine Coolant (green in color). DO NOT USE Ford Extended Life Engine Coolant (Orange in color)."

With this said, it says use only engine coolant that meets Ford spec
"ESE-M97B44-A" - I just replaced my coolant with coolant that says it meets that spec but it's orange in colour. Should I flush the system again and put in green?

my girls blazer used to get gummy/pudding residue around the radiator cap and fill neck. It used the orange. I've never seen that on my car with the green. ??? never put 2+2 together. Good to know for future.

Even blind squirrels find a nut every now and then..GM does recommend Dexacool. There have been a lot of problems with it.
Do not mix the two.
Flush the system and fill with green and it will be fine.

My Grandparents Buick (you know old people and Buicks, lol). Its a '99 and a few years ago I remember checking their coolant because they go out of town a lot. Anyway it had never been changed and only had like 60,000 miles and was like 4 years old. It was bright orange but sludgy as crap. We flushed and flushed and flushed to get it out of the radiator and still had like this jello crap in the overflow. It was a PITA. So this "Ford boy" has dealt with the GM stuff and I agree its junk. And from above when my intake busted the dealer flushed my orange (factory) to green. When I asked why they said that is what is recommended.

You've had multiple GM's, all with 200,000 - 250,000 miles, all with Dex-Cool, & all with no coolant problems? :rlaugh: I know who's spinning the BS, & it ain't me. :bs: :bs: :bs:

I put orange stuff in my engine a few months ago and after reading this thread I decided to go back to regular old green coolant. Last night I flushed and flushed my engine with fresh water, then I filled it up with water, started the engine, let it warm up, then drained and flushed again, and repeated this until the water was totally clear and didn't smell of coolant. I didn't open the block drain, do you guys think this was sufficient to get all that orange dexcool garbage out of my engine? I'm really paranoid now that I've heard how bad Dexcool is and I want to make sure it's ALL gone!!

Thanks!
