I've looked everywhere for this and could not find a straight answer . My friend bought a 87 vette and it weighs just shy of 3100lbs and I wanna know how much my car weighs, its a 91 GT and wut about lx hatch's and notchbacks??? Stock weight ofcourse.

general consensus is about 3200 for hatchbacks...that what i own, though ive seen some gutted foxes at 2800 w/ out driver

my 1992 gt is 3263 lbs without driver... And I have gutted my old LX hatch down to 2750 with me in it!

'84 GT with all smog equipment removed, a/c removed, 1/4 tank of gas, spare in tow, stock brakes, draglites and me in it tipped the scales at 3120...

now that i've installed an 8.8 rear, with discs, and 95 front spindles, and she's now shod with bullitt wheels-which are much heavier than my old draglites-i don't know how much it weighs anymore..

I weighed mine a couple months ago....it was 3060 w/o me in it and about a 1/4 tank of gas, no spare tire, but full interior

prob around 3200 w/o driver, it can get feathery with a fiberglass hood, no a/c, no sway bar, no spare tire, no back seats, or **** like that

My convertible weighs in at a litle over 3700 I believe. Thats with everything on it that came on it.

Weight differs even from hatch to hatch or notch to notch.

My hatch weighs 3180lbs (no weight reduction like aluminum heads at the time). That is without a driver.

They don't weigh much different than the newer cars.

You'll find curb weights (no driver/passenger) varying from about 2950 up to as much as 3500-3600 lbs. - depending on the body style and how they're equipped. Lightest are the lightly optioned late 80's notches; heaviest are the highly optioned newer convertibles. Generally speaking, most folks end up in the 3100-3200 lb. range with no driver. That compares with the new GT that weighs about 3500-3600 lbs. The newer cars have gotten both bigger and heavier as they've become more structurally sound.

Figure a 100 lb. swing between nearly full of gas and almost empty.

I can tell you what the different Volvos weigh too, but I'm likely the only one that's interested...


Were you with your friend when he weighed his 87 Vette on certified accurate scales? If it's all stock, I'd bet it's a bit heavier than 'just under 3100'.

Did a little research - seems GM listed a curb weight of 3216 lbs. for the 87 Corvette coupe (20,000 coupes built, 10,000 verts); the convertible was heavier (but I couldn't find a curb weight). Typically manufacturers list the curb weight for a 'standard' equipment car. Especially with cars like Corvettes, many cars were optioned quite heavily. The more options, typically, the more weight. Whether his is a coupe or vert, and how it's optioned will determine whether it's heavier or lighter than yours. I'd say the odds are in favor of yours being just a bit lighter than his.

The stock Corvettes of that era typically ran low to mid 14's in the 1/4. The ZR1's and Callaway twin turbos were significantly quicker than that.

The newer cars weigh anywhere from (the 05's that is) average 3400-3600lbs.

My friends 2000 Gt with just over a 1/2 tank of gas weighs 3,337lbs. Only 14x lbs more than my lx fox. He is loaded too - mach 460, leather, and chrome 17x9 inch wheels. My 2000 Gt weighed less than his. Almost got in the 32xx range...so there isn't much of a difference.

The "unoptioned" 94 gt we weighed weighed in at almost 3400lbs with a bit over 3/4 of a tank.

So newer cars are automatically heavier? Nah...

Newer cars have more amenities and come with more technological advances. Yeah sign me up for a new car

Don't know why you don't want to admit it - but the evidence is incontrovertible. The newer Stangs are heavier than the SN95's which were heavier than the Foxes. No way around it.

My point is that it isn't neccessarily a bad thing to be heavier. You make it out in several of your "weighted" post about how they are pigs and this and that and yet you forget to mention any pros the majority of the time. The newer cars are faster/handle better/quieter/more comfortable/brake better/safer/with other loaded options. Do actually think that we would lose weight. If you see what we have actually gained in the last 10-15 years in respect to ride control/quality I think the little weight gained is quite insignificant.

Bias is just a pet peeve of mine. I am bias when it comes to defending the defenseless though (4.6L "trashtalking" in the 5.0L section) My CT shows all...lol.

I did some quick searching and found out some more 05 weights. Just because the lightest you have seen doesn't mean that is the lightest there is. The 05's are pretty standardly loaded so you don't get any weight options when you get a more loaded car.

On fast-autos.net it list the curb weight as 3425lbs. That is lighter than the 3,550lbs you mentioned.

They have 1hp to every 11.7lbs.

Guess what my hp:weight ratio is for my 5.0L when stock. 14.13lbs per 1hp. That is a considerable difference. Now that is something that is incontrovertible.

In short, I just think your post about them are quite bias on the heaviness. You tend to show the "highside" of things sometimes. It can be good in some instances when talking about safety in a car but when trying to persuay against the new cars in a negative light...I just say

my car, with me and 1/4 tank, is 3300. and last i weighed myself i was 150 so im at 3150, give or take, with 1/4 tank.
