What do you need to use a 86-93 trans in a 95?

Like the title states my friend has a t-5 sitting around with low milage i can get for a steal... Do you need to trade out inut shafts or anything i know that ours is like 5/8'' longer or something like that... or do i just use the 95 bell housing... because if its not anything hard to do... ill pick it up as a spare

Im not sure, but I think I remember a thread where someone saif that for one reason or another they couldnt be used in SN95's

I may be wrong though.

yea i think it has something to do with the input shaft... i think you need like a custom spacer for the bell housing or something... dont know if you can just pick it up somewhere i could be wrong... very very wrong

you need a fox bellhousing to go with it. then you will have to shim your driveshaft. i think i read somewhere that summit sells the shim.

yes the output shaft is 5.8'' longer and therefore changing the thickness of the bellhousing by the same amount. The reason for this is to position the shifter in hte right place of the console on the sn95's (or so i am told), but you can just simply use the fox bellhousing and i don't think you would notice, and shim the drive shaft.

However in order to use the 94, 95 bellhousing (which is harder to find and usally more expensive) you need to change the output shaft from a 94,95 t5 to make it work.

So i all depends on what behousing you have or can get you hands on but the fox housing would make more cents. oh by the way the pressure plates also have different thicknesses from the 2 different bellhousings the 95 being the thickest.

you would also have to use the clutch fork from a fox. so the list is:

fox bellhousing
fox clutch fork
driveshaft spacer

If you can get that T5 for cheap then here is a thought. You could pull your T5 and swap out the INPUT shaft and throwout bearing retainer(cover that input shaft goes through) from it to the Fox style T5 and not worry about all that other crap. Just install it and be done with it. You don't need to shim anything or swap bellhousings and shift forks.


Then, take your old T5 and put a 94-95 Gforce gearset in there when you can afford it($1300 from astroperformance.com)

buy the fox one and get a new input shaft and some stiffer internals and rebuild it while its out of the car. then once its all done, swap them.

bring it to a trans shop and have them swap your input shafts. thats all i did to make mine work
