What do you think, too much oil vapor???

After 400 miles or so, my intake tube gets coated with oil, so does my MAF housing. My engine produces a lot of oil vapors coming from the valve cover breather tube. Also I will have some yellowish slime under my oil filler cap. Now my water coolant level does NOT drop and my engine doesn't seem to loose oil, it may need a 1/8 at every oil change. Oil pressure is a steady 3/4 of way all the time (on the factory guage). My engine will not smoke oil either, even if I revv it in neutral. I have a funny fealing that one of my oil rings are starting to wear out or maybe starting signs of a head gasket failure? I have a pair of AFR heads and other goodies going on this stock bottom end, but when I need a rebuild I will either buy a new short block or get a stroker kit and .030 over pistons for my current block. No big deal...

Let us know the details of your motor. I am not sure how you have the crankcase vented.

I have an updated PCV and oil control FAQ on my website (see below). I would post the link but I can't pull up the site from work.

Some moisture in the oil system is normal, but you want to get it out of there quickly.

Let me know if the FAQ helps, I will make changes if need be.

Thanks, for now the engine is 100% stock and the oil is coming from the valve cover and going in the air intake tube. There is a baffle in there but I have not yet checked the PCV valve and, stupid me, forgot it when I did a tune up. This engine had the original 14 year old spark plugs and wires, just FYI. So I guess the PCV valve may need a change.

I will try and oil seperator and install one tonight but should I install it from the PCV or from the "TB/VC hose"?

Yeah, the Home Depot site is tough to link to.

There is a smaller version, which most people use. It looks much like the Steeda unit.

The small one seems to work well for most, but I don't know of anyone using the large unit. I bought one myself but have yet to try it.
If you just walk into Home Depot I can almost gaurantee that the small one will be on the shelf.

However...
With the oil coming from the TB hose, there won't be much need for a separator on the pcv hose (most poeple use the separator on the pcv side).

If you are getting oil from the TB hose and the baffle is still in place, then I would start with replacing the pcv and pcv breather screen. These may be frozen with oily goo, and blocking the ventilation from the crankcase, leaving the TB hose as the only place for venting.

Start with the pcv and screen, that may be enough to solve your problem.

I bought a new PCV valve, turns out the stock one wasn't in the intake, it was hanging on the side of block! :$ I can't belive I missed that during my so called "tune up" last fall. I cleaned up my air intake tube and so forth and I'll check to see if oil vapors are still out of control.

Wow!
Double check that the pcv is free and not plugged up. You should be able to blow air through from the crankcase side fairly easily, and it should be tougher to blow air from the intake side.

Also make sure the pcv screen is there.

It may be worth doing a compression check, because you shouldn't have enough crankcase pressure to blow the pcv out of the intake.

I'll do that later today... I just think the previous owner unplugged it to check for the rattling sound and forgot about it.
