What is the coil bind height of the stock valve springs?

Just curious if anyone knows this or has measured it. I'm going to try to check it on my shimmed GT40 springs since I'm trying to figure out whether or not I need new ones.

I was planning to use the valve compressing tool (the one you use while the head is mounted) to max it out and measure the height. Then re-install the rocker, read the height again and find the difference to check that I have at least .060" left in the spring.

Scott . . . I read through that, but I think they were talking more about that spring kit than anything else.

If those top numbers are the bind heights, I think I'm in trouble! Doesn't that exh valve spring height of 1.389 seem low? Especially if the 1.12 value is the coil bind height. That would allow 1.389-1.12=.269" total lift I know my installed height will vary from what most people have since I'm running a valve job and new valves.

I'm not sure about the correct answer to your Q

but

I am sure I have seen many posts over the years on these sites where peeps talk about the stock springs start to poop out and get weak after not too many miles.

A greater ratio rocker

or

Taller cam lobe is gonna stress the spring all it more so

Maybe you should consider some springs with more beef

btw, the big cam companies used to have lots of good tech stuff on their sites like you are asking about.
