That's just how they are. No caps are included on the motorcraft canister or the aftermarket canisters.
I find it hard to believe that LMR sells the canister without caps.
At least somebody has them.
I thought of something like that for those looking for caps, but then I took a look at mine. It has these fins that probably let air in or out of the canister. I’m not sure what completely sealing it would do to the functionality, but I would keep an eye on it.In regards to the canister cap, here is a .60 cent fix.
Home Depot sells a 5/8” nylon locking hole plug part 759 425 by everbilt for 60 cents. The plug is found in the pull out draws in the isle that stocks nuts, bolts, nails and screws.
this plug fits perfect and snug inside the charcoal canister holes that are supposed to be plugged. It also pops out with your nail so it’s not permanently stuck in there either. Nice cheap easy quick fix for anyone who’s looking to cap their canister and can’t find the OEM plugs for now. It won’t be as air tight as the OEM part but not sure if it has to be anyway? I don’t see why it would anyway being that it doesn’t even come brand new with the caps. Definitely better than leaving it uncapped though. Quick coat of black paint and you won’t even notice it.
Yep I noticed the same on mine. The fins. I thought of that as well that the cap may need to breath but then figured it’s probably one in the same with the boot leg fix because once those fins slide down into the opening, the perimeter of the cap seals around the outter part of the canister nipple so I think it’s the same effect. In other words, even with the fins I think the factory cap is air tight. Lol....... I always thought that too, especially when I change the filter in my fish tank...... I think..... that charcoal in the car is probably useless after 30 something years.The canister is meant to be vented.
technically the charcoal should also be replaced at some point in its life. But that’s an entirely different can of worms I’ll leave alone.
