What is up with this Typhoon intake?

They claim its like the Performer, and it looks like it is. But why is it so much cheaper than anything else? I mean for the price you would think its a used cobra or gt40. Just curious if anyone has used it and the results.
I checked there website with the dyno results and it shows the Trick Flow barely beating it.

here is an article on that intake, they talk a little bit about the cheaper casting and left over flashing. the american made version of thier products are better made in most cases.

I have also read that there are problems with the actual metal of the casting. In my opinion, i would think about whether I'd rather support an american company that puts in the R&D to bring new products and support what they made instead of purchasing a cheap chinese knockoff..

Made in China by children. I understand that people are on a budget and money is tight but I would prefer to buy a used eddy before I got one from overseas. Just MHO so you can take it with a grain of salt if you like.

I agree, with things the way they are now you must try to keep money going to american workers.

Well its not my first choice for an intake, I would rather find a cobra or Gt40 than that anyways. And would look for a used trickflow or eddy before buying it, was just curious if it was worth a crap or not. They are plastered all over Ebay.

That's the truth. I would rather resist the itch and wait a few more months until I had the cash for a higher quality american made piece or like RYC CUKR stated, I would buy used before getting a made in china paper weight.

My feelings exactly. Hence one of the reasons I have a tubular gt40. FWIW, I had a edelbrock performer on my last stang.

I have a Typhoon sitting right next to me right now. Its a fine intake for the price if you have a dremel and a few hours to clean up the ports. There was some ugly flash in mine, but nothing the dremel couldnt fix quickly.

Honesly youd have to have some pretty crazy flowing heads to take full advantage of the intake anyways.

If you can get it for cheap, I say go for it. Otherwise a GT40 or Explorer intake are two other great options.

Yeah I keep my head in the junk yard looking for intakes off the explorer, but to many people know what they areand eat them up.

I have had the Typhoon on my car for the last 5 years, daily driver... It is the biggest POS you can buy, it has caused so many problems, I wanted to buy a GT-40 and swap it off. The baffel on the lower is tiny, causing oil to be sucked up easily, the casting is crap and doesn't line up well with ford heads or lower intake gaskets, the metal is of such low quality that I pulled the threads out of the lower intake when tightening the upper-to-lower bolts with a small 1/4" wratchet.

After porting and cleaning it up (16 hours), it flows great. You could do the same with the Edelbrock though with better results and longer lasting quality.

Edelbrock would be better for all the other reasons mentioned, or go cobra/explorer to save some money.

I have a used one I picked up cheap on my '87. Vacuum leaks at the base to upper. Vacuum leaks at the Upper access plate. I had to coat the upper to lower gasket and access plate gaskets with RTV to seal it up. I only paid 100.00 for the intake but jeez. If it was worth it I'd take to a machine shop and have it resurfaced but I'm not going to bother. Will be putting on an Edelbrock when I get to it.
