I have to buy new tires and my rims are 17x8 bullits. I want to know what size I can safely run all around. I am getting 4.10s installed in 2 weeks and was hoping for some bigger tires in the back and what not but I am not sure how big. Also I want to know some good tires all around (555r's too expensive). I was thinking maybe gatorbacks or something. Whats real name for the gatorbacks?

You CAN run 275/40s on 8" wheels. You might want to go with a narrower tire brand (Falken ZE512s for instance won't look oversized on the wheel like say, a Sumitomo HZR or whatever).

I run Sumi 315/35s on 10.5" rears and ZE512 275/40s on 8" fronts.

I just put a set of 4 falken fk-451 265/40's on my 17x8's. they fit great. I prolly could of put 275's on but I wasnt sure if they would rub in the front cause my car is about 2" lower than stock.

So is mine in the front.

Dude...they'll fit. No worries man.

Compare the overall and tread width of the fk 451s to the 512ZEs...they should work as well as mine do on my 8" wheels, and my car sees some HARD cornering.

You know, I have a pair of 17x10.5 silver Cobra R replicas, as well as a pair of 17x9s that I'm not even using. If you, or anyone else would like to try them, hey, the fronts are not a perfect match to the rears so they would certainly be reasonably priced.

This is not meant to be a 'classified ad' guys, just trying to help.

a little off topic, but why do you choose 17x8's over your 9 and 10.5 combo.. do you feel the car responds better with the 17x8s?

and i think i remember you had a full griggs set up. how do you like it? what's done with your front suspension, and if you have a pan hard bar, how do you like griggs unit.

little random, but i'd appreciate your experiences

No, no fancy suspension on my car yet. I replaced my 9s because they weren't the same brand of wheel actually.

After running the 9s I saw no advantage and thought the steering was a little slower feeling. I figured all that wheel wasn't helping, so I bought a set of four wheels which included the correct 8" fronts AND another pair of 10.5s.

I really like the Falken's on the 8s! With my spring and adjustable shock combo, the suspension is VERY tuneable for a street car.
