what rear end would you put in a 65 mustang that is pushing around 330 to the wheels. right now it has a stock 8 in and a t5 tranny. thanks Nick
Many believe the 8" is good to about 400 hp depending on the type of transmission and tires. I'm not questioning this "conventional wisedom". However, Ford upgraded to the 9" with the hipo (271 hp) and all large blocks. Apparently Ford did thought the limit for reliability was somewhere south of 270 hp.latamud said:An 8 will be fine for 330, no problem. I'd look into upgrading to a trac loc with better gears though.
As far as I know, both the 8" and 9" use the same axles ( if the 9 has 28 splined axles) so what makes the 65 8" alxes so fragile?fastback brian said:There is just about nothing on the 65 8 inch that is any good for handling power. I would start shopping for a 9 inch or atleast a maveric or granada 8 inch to build.
