What shifter linkage?

What shifter linkage? I just installed a 1978 C-4 in my 66 and the old linkage wont work. On the old C-4 the lever on the tranny was pointing up and on my 78 tranny the lever is on the bottom. Would I go to the bone yard and get the linkage off a car that the tranny is in the down position? Thanks

Only way to fix that is to use an aftermarket shifter with a cable. Or put the old C-4 linkage on the newer transmission. You've in effect, reversed the sifter pattern. If you could ge the linkage rod on, the pattern would be reversed.

Sorry guys for the dumb question. It was dark last night when I finally got the tranny in and I couldn't see the lever on top behind my safety neutral switch. I found it this morning and hooked up my linkage fine.
