What supercharger to get?

Ok im bringing this post back from the dead...LOL...I have since got the Gt i said i was buying...when started this post..I found out it had 3.27's stock..thats good..The car is bascially all stock..it has an Off road H-pipe..Flows master mufflers...and a k&n filter and silencer removed...I have been thinking this over one minute im with a Turbo then im with a Blower then im with a PD KB...i want that low end torque that Gearbanger 101 talks about this is my daily...Plus i think the KB is cool and is different thats for sure....I just need to weigh out what i need to do to bolt up KB...Do i need injectors? do i need a Bigger MAF...do i need a bigger fuel pump that i might just put in anyways should i go with a 190 lph or 255 lph...I like this kit because it keeps all my smog stuff..And im going to be putting headers on as well...So this is what im doing trying too find out what will be easier for me to do and easier for me to obtain my goal for a street ...once in awhile strip car...but want fun on the street type car ...lol..I go to alot of car shows so i think the KB will get some attention..Not that im doing it for that but i think for a car i drive on the street i just think it will be better for what im looking for?...Any advice would be great thanks...

Give Kenne Bell a call and tell them your considering there kit but need to know of all the supporting mods it requires before you purchase... they'll fill you in on what you really need and what all is included with the kit. (909) 941-0985

Only thing I can remember you needing and that is if you want more boost or have upgraded internals is a by-pass valve kit which is common for blowers with output over 6 psi

Thanks i did call a few months ago the guy was a little short if you get my drift...I wanted to talk but he seemed like he wasnt interested...lol...He said its a complete kit i dont need to change anything just bolt it up put colder plugs in gap the smaller...and that was it...I dont know tho..i thought i should at least go bigger injectors and fuel pump i know it comes with a FMU will that be enought to support the blower? I mean that would be great if i can leave everything alone maybe just put in a 190 lph pump but an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and go from there what do you think?

The kit uses an FMU to work with the stock injectors but you can use whatever size you want larger then stock and scratch the FMU and get a custom tune done but that's more money spent.. maybe a bit more power gained though

I don't remember if the kit comes with a pump or kb's boost a pump but i'd go with a larger pump if not just incase and a afpr and thats about it if your going with the standard version which is what 6lbs? you can also search on what people are using with there 5 or 6 psi paxton or vortechs and compare with what you have and will need.

Thanks for the info i was going to use the FMU for now with a larger fuel pump..like 190-255 lph...will that be ok? will i have any problems you think im going to be using the basic kit i think thats 5-6 psi...I will later on down the road go with bigger injectors..MAF ..TB and a tune but for now i was going to run it like it comes....what do you think?

That's fine....but go with the 255lph pump over the 190lph unit. Bigger is better for a return style system. Whatever isn't used is pumped back into the tank anyway.

You probably won't need to get crazy with the MAF and Throttle body until you do something about your stock lower intake manifold and heads. That's going to be the major cork in the road later on. You can either encompass a new Cobra/GT40 lower into the cost now and buy your KB kit with the matching lower, or have your stock manifold ported later on down the road. If it were me, I'd pony up the extra cash right now for the Cobra lower, since it will outflow (even ported) the stock manifold by a good margin. No matter what, your kit is going to have to come off to upgrade the heads, so keep that in mind.

Thanks Brian for the advice...To be dead honest with you i really dont have plans of ever going with heads or different cam just a stock motor with the Kenne Bell will be fine with me..lol...Whatever it runs in the 1/4 i'll live with..Just because its a convertible makes me this way if i go faster then 13.4 here in NJ at the track you need a 6 point roll bar and harness..I really dont want to go that way with the car...This is my everyday car..i just want to have some kick when i feel like it...So i think for me the bigger fuel pump would be great and maybe i could down the road do injectors and a tune i really have no plans of uping boost from what the standard kits comes with...Maybe i'll throw a 50 shot on it to cool it down at the track if that can be done? but other then that ...im just doing headers..cat back...cold air intake and the Kenne bell..so i think it should be ok that way no?....or is it mandatory to get a tune and bigger injectors?

With your stock restrictive heads and intake, expect to see about 325-350hp out of the kit for daily useage. It'll make for a fun ride and will be enough to get you solidly into the 12's....which is all you were looking for anyway. The car will remain completely sedate and streetable until "you" decide you want to feel the power. Like it is in stock N/A trim, the harder and faster you feed the throttle, the harder and faster the power is going to come on....only on a much larger scale. No low speed lag, or moments of lackluster acceleration with rushes of unexpected power. Just a thick, meaty power band from start to finish, all the way to red line.

The 50-shot will certainly help along the way, both adding a nice measure of nitrous into the mix and acting as a cooling agent. Expect that 50-shot to equate to more like a 75-shot in real world conditions. Keep in mind, your certainly going to be in need of a retune at that point.

Until then, the tune and injectors aren't mandatory, but they'll make for a more precise fuel and engine management. The thing with an FMU is that you get the same climb in pressure across the board (so many pounds of fuel, for every pound of boost) based on the size of the diaphragm in the unit itself. I think the stock KB unit is set at a 6:1 ratio....but I'm not 100%

With injectors and a dyno tune, you'll be able to add fuel and timing based on real world engine load, that won't normally be consistent with the fixed parameters the FMU is set for. And example....the engine may require more or less fuel at 2,000RMP under WOT than it will at 4,500RPM. The FMU has no way of compensating for this, so you'll more than likely end up with an overly rich A/F ratio. This will not only cost you a few horsepower across the board, but it might knock 1-2mpg out of your average fuel economy and take a little "crispness" out of part throttle spirited driving if you're seeing too much fuel at lower boost levels.

Its still going to work, don't worry about that, but it's just not going to be a precise as it would with a properly matched set of injectors and ECU tune. Think of it as killing a house fly with a sledge hammer. It gets the job done, but it’s not quite as elegant as using a newspaper.

Understand?

Yeah i understand LOL..thats funny killing a fly with a sledge hammer...LOL....

Kenne Bell emailed me back they said the FMU is rated at 12.1 whatever that means...lol...Im going with the basic kit for sure...and down the road i will do an upgrade to the Fuel injectors..MAF ..etc and do a good dyni tune...But i know for now im going to have a 255 lph pump put right in...:nice: And go from there..I have to do this in small accounts being the blower itself is $3k..lol..but at least ill have a decenly fast car for now....I hope...lol...And yeah if it hits 12.99 i would be happy even a low 13 would put a smile on my face....:D
