I'll be doing a H/C/I swap on my basically stock 91 GT here shortly. It'll be getting Thumper Stage 1 heads and a TMoss ported intake. It already has 3.73s, T5, CAI and a 70mm TB (installed by the PO)

I'm trying to decipher which cam to use in it

I know the B cam has 2 degrees more duration than the E and the E has 0.018" more Lift than the B cam.

What difference do those numbers make when it comes to sound/SOTP performance of these (2) cams ? ?

Honestly i think a custom grind would be best. I wish i had done the same when i built my motor. The alphabet cams are great b/c they are cheap and work alright. BUt the lowend tq of a custom grind will be worth it.

ninety: are you serious? a custom cam on that setup? hes gonna chance SOMETHING on it before hes "finsihed" with it.

B cam. more low end. will fit your mods better.

Yes hes serious.

B-cam is junk.

Nothing beats a custom, because no two setups are identical, if youve ever ordered a custom cam, youd know its not just about what heads and intake you have...

read my sig

i am well aware of custom cams. however, for the setup he has, i dont feel it would be worth the money... if anything, spend the extra $200-300 and have the heads ported more!

I'm with N8Miller, a custom cam just isn't worth it at his level of modifications. The $ would be spent better else where.

But I say E cam - B cam is more of a top end cam the the e cam.

Personal preffrence would go to the b however.

Consider staying with the stock cam and adding 1.7 roller rockers if you can't afford a custom grind. You will maintain great street driveability and not give up much power at all but highest rpm's.The lumpy idle of the B or E means crappy low end.It depends what you are after.

i am running damn near an identical setup as yours.

i am running the B-cam which i advanced 4 degrees. also put on a 1.7 roller rocker which puts the lift around .512 so my setup has more lift and duration than the E

cars sounds nice and pulls great.

didnt seem to lose any low end. starts pulling around 3000-3200 and pulls hard to 5500. i'd imagine with the B timed straight up it wouldnt start pulling until a little bit later maybe around 4400 and pull higher, to around 5600-5700 i am not sure just a guess.

Both cams will help but i say go the B-cam

I'm not entirely sure where some people get the idea that just because a part isn't the most expensive, it won't work, or it's junk.... But i've been more than happy with the numbers the b-cam 2 degrees advanced with 1.72's has made with my car. Is there more power in a custom? Absolutely.. Is it worth the extra money right now? I don't think so. If i was you i'd have no problem getting either cam, but i personally like the b with 2 to 4 degrees of advance...

This is a low budget, weekend cruiser with occasional drag racing. :nice:

I have a B cam here on the shelf already and can buy an E cam cheap (if need be).

I've had another reputible engine builder also say do the B Cam 4 degrees Advanced.

More Suggestions ??

i've got a b cam and 1.72rrs and my car ran a 8.32 friday night.i like the b over the e.68 torino,my 306 idles fine and doesn't cut off and carry on.it idled just as good with my mild ported e7 heads and after i swapped to gt-40x heads.maybe you had something alittle off.i have a typhoon intake,24lbers,70mmtb and pro-m75mm maf.i've been thinking in the future about going to 1.6s and using a f cam.

its quite possible, the people i bought the car from were half azzers and just slapped it together to get it on the road. i should have known not to buy a car that they sold parts off of to put the engine back together after they blew the first one. i have learned my lesson on buying things from people i knew from school.:nono:

If you ever plan on putting any boost ot your engine I would stay away from the B-cam. The B-cam is nice for mild mods and a nasty lope in the idle, ( NA), but it will bleed off boost some what compared to the E-cam. Me personally.... I dont have the kind of money to spend on a performance part and take a chance that it wont work. Both the B & E cams have proven their worth on many different combo's. In reality a custom cam in a mild street motor will not be that noticable of a difference for twice the money.

I got chewed out on sbftech.com for asking the same question. I had in my hands a FRPP B cam and asked if I should use it with my combo and next thing I knew I was an absolute idiot who should be riding a tricycle.

lol... yeah, those guys arent for the faint of heart.

umm just wanted to point out he asked between the e cam and the bcam, never said "guys what cam should i get" Sure a custom cam would be great, but why in the world would you pay 300 bucks for a custom cam for a mild hci. Its just not necessary, an off the shelf cam will give him all he needs. Now I have no expierence with the E cam, but I love my bcam, sure theres better cams out there like the tfs stage 1. Ive also heard good things about the Fcam maybe youll want to look into that one instead of the ecam, but like said before bcam may not be the best, but it pulls like a mother after 3k and mine revs to 5700 no problem with stock heads and a explorer intake, i can show you the video. It has a nasty idle, I dont have a problem getting mine to idle right at 700, and it dosent chug around town. It still picks up down low, not for racing conditions, but with 3.73 gears, cruising, if you want to pass someone just push the pedal down in 5th and its not problem.
