Considering my mods below what would you recommend I do next to lower my 1/4 mile times. I want to keep my car naturally aspirated and keep in mind I live in california so any changes (IE cams) would need to be california smog compatible. I don't mind doing minor things like swapping pipes and tunning timing but when it comes to dismantling the motor over smog checks, no thanks. All advice is greatly appreciated

Long tubes(if you can) or Accufab TB and plenum.

I'm not sure, but you may be able to get away with a stage 1 cam...you may want to ask around. and p&p heads

California smog law requires aftermarket parts to have an EOC number/certificate proving they are emmissions legal. As far as I know the only company offers this is BBK and only with their shorties, not their LT's

well how much do you want to spend? if you have some cash to spend, send your heads off to T&J peformance in Georgia and have them do a stage 3 P&P, then do some cams, go with a aftermarket intake etc. but that's all pretty expensive.

You are pretty well covered for bolt-on modifications. You may want to add an Accufab 75 mm throttle body and 75 mm plenum, as well as JBA shorty headers. To lower your quarter-mile time, you need to hook-up. The Nitto Drag Radials will help, but you may want to do some work on the suspension, e.g., Steeda lower and upper control arms, Tokico Adjustable Struts and Shocks. This will help to transfer the weight to the rear tires. Finally, there is weight-reduction, where you begin the process of removing unnecessary parts. After that, its practice, practice, and some more practice.

By the way, what are your current quarter-mile times?

I've heard VT Engines stage 1 cams will pass smog here in CA. I'm not sure what their specs are. When I was looking into a cam for my Z28 I was told by a local shop that they highest cam spec they could get to pass smog was one with a 221/221 lift and 114 LSA but that was on a Z28 not a Mustang GT so I'm just guessing. I've heard that Comp Cams makes a 218/218 114 LSA cam for our cars so that one might be one also.

JBA Shorty Headers are smog legal and also have a CARB number so they are fully legal for CA. There are no mid or full length headers that are legal. Also, the JBA's cost like $500+ bucks and give only a small gain of around 5 HP so that would be one of the last things I would do considering the cost.

Another thing you could do is an alunimum driveshaft. That will give you some more HP from your engine to the wheels and lighten you up a small amount.

I don't know if Plenum & Throttle Bodies affect smog or not but they are easy enough to change out if you had to change back to stock and they give decent gains.

Hope that helps!

Id say go with an Accufab Plenum/TB combo
That or try some upper and lower control arms. Steeda makes a nice adjustable set
