Miami, Ok
a friend of mine got a pretty nice car. its a 98 i think talon tsi awd turbo. makes 14 psi, has a header, boost controller, downpipe, intake and exhaust

its a 2.0L with 14 psi

another friend is going around saying he thinks it will take my car.

i got to thinking if this 2.0 N/A would make say 130 horse by itself. add 14psi ( roughly another atmosphere) it would probably give it an 80% gain after all drivetrain loss and etc. so it would around 230-240 Hp at the crank just some guesses

my car traps 111 mph in the 1/4 and i did some rough estimates on some calculators for my mph they say my car is making roughly 330 HP to the wheels

just some rough estimates

on the street i could see the talon getting me off the line and then me catching back up and blowing its doors off. at the track i think i would leave it hard and smoke it

what do you think? its a neat car, i always likes eagle talons a bit, they came fromthe factory with some performance, unlike honda civics and other crap.

also what boost did the turbo talons come with stock, 14 psi is alot of boost for a factory car...

That's a tough call....i don't know a lot about Talons but i've seen some nasty ones at the track (i once saw a video of a twin engine/twin turbo Talon running low 8 second ET's). They're wicked fast off the line with AWD, but with you on slicks at the track that'll make up for a lot of that unless he's on slicks as well. When it boils down to it though i doubt he's running mid-low 12s so you should take him.

are we talking street or track? If he gets out on you hard enough on the street you wont have the power to run him down within 1320 feet. You have to remember, a 13.5 sec awd car will run 13.5's on the street as well where as a rwd car might run 12.5 at the track and only say a 13.2 or 13.3 on the street. All depends if the guy can drive and what tire your on.

You should have him from the sounds of it. I know you can wakem up for a little amount of money but I think your combo is a little more than what he has to offer. If I were him I'd worry about breaking something those cars are notorious for having drivetrain failure from what I've seen.

You'll take him no problem. But remember theres always real nasty DSM's cruising around that are making alittle more then 14 psi :D . Chances are, no offense to your buddy but he prob cant drive the car correctly. Though Ive never driven a AWD car several friends of mine have owned them, built dsm's, evo, wrx's etc and from what they tell me most people dont drive AWD right. Oh yea, and its a talon so theres a good chance it will break!

from the looks of it it appears to be the factory turbo it isnt really anything super hopped up. under the hood it looks stock except for an intake pipe or something. it makes 14s psi i duno if thats what they made from the factory or not. seeing how it has a boost controller i bet it didnt make 14 to start with.

its the first AWD car he has had so i duno if he can drive it. i bet it gets it from a dig good though. i am wanting a ride in it to see how it feels. i havent rode in a decent turbo 4 cyl like that.

ive seen alot of talons at the track running decent. maybe mids to high 13s

my friend said the car was "alright" and he is no bser, he knows what fast and what isnt.

I have had 2 Talon Awd Turbos. Bone stock they boost 11psi but there are some free mods you can do to get them to boost 15psi. If he has a Down pipe and exhaust and "knows" how to launch the car should be a high 13 sec car no problem. I had a 1990 with 3" down pipe no cat 3" exhaust Fuel pump upgrade and K&n drop in filter and I was running 13.5 all day long but that was a first gen that has a better flowing head and better turbo and BOV than the second gen DSMs. You will have to run him down no matter what unless he cant drive.

Yeah, the AWD turbo's no slouch, you'll be running him down(its what I had to do in 91, anyhow), but the stock turbo and head, should start wheezing and you can reel it in. Sure made me wonder, watching that little car leave so hard, what I was gonna do with it, though!:jaw:

The stock T25 still has enough for an 11. A quick google search says a '94 TSi (FWD, not AWD) in Tampa went 11.271 @ 120.62 on the 14B (T25)..in 2005. There is probably a 14B DSM in the 10s now..I'm just too lazy to look.

Point is, you might have some trouble. Then again, you might not. Racing him is the only way to find out.

The 94 and 95s are different generation cars and the 14b and a t-25 are 2 totally different turbos. You would never go 11s with a t-25 and very very unlikely to break into the 11s at all with a 14 b,now a 16g or t3/t4 you definately will with a apexi fuel controller piggybacked off of the stock ecu or a standalone set up.

I've raced my buddies DSM enough on the street just for fun. he has stock turbo, fresh rebuilt engine, boost controller set at 18 psi, downpipe, full exhaust, intake and bov. from a 1st gear roll up to about 80 mph he has me but barely i'm usually by his side at the end of the race and i'm not modded much at all. just headers, exhaust, short shifter, 15 degree timing, CAI. He gets me pretty bad off the line. i'm running bfgoodrich g-force sports and i just spin 1st and chirp 2nd. I say from a roll u got him bad. Off the line he'll probably jump u but u will catch up.

Have to be careful. There is one of those VERY stock looking talons running 11's out at the Kan. Kid has long hair and doens't talk big at all about his car. Its a dark color and I think it even has the factory no option hub caps on it still ( one hell of a sleeper) If its that car then he will take u no questions asked. If its another one of the pos ricers around here you will walk all over him.

no its not that car.

i rode in the car last night and its no comparison. its got some balls for a 4 cyl but its nothing even close to my car. i would walk all over it no problem

it made 11 psi when i rode in it. it didnt feel fast at all. maybe a high high 14 at the track
the BOV while driving around does sound neat though lol

Exactly. They're a very tough car to race unless you know exactly what's done to it, how much boost etc. Some people might be able to tell, but there could be ones that run 15s-10s and I wouldn't know the difference in looks or sound.

With the times you run at the track, you should mop the floor with him, even on street tires. IF he can drive, he will take you out of the hole, but there's SOOOO many people out there who can't launch AWD cars worth a ****, so he may not even take you there by much. If his car only has the mods you mention, he'd probly be lucky to see 100mph in the 1/4.
