Rape fest in your favor... IMO.... The awd might get you off the line but you should kill him in the 1/4

With the times you run at the track, you should mop the floor with him, even on street tires. IF he can drive, he will take you out of the hole, but there's SOOOO many people out there who can't launch AWD cars worth a ****, so he may not even take you there by much. If his car only has the mods you mention, he'd probly be lucky to see 100mph in the 1/4.

100mph trap speed for an AWD can be good for a very low 13...

I don't know about that...maybe mid - high 13's. It's not like it's gonna be pulling any 1.4 60' times or anything...maybe a 1.9 if he can drive it well. People give AWD wayy too much credit.

a few of my buddys are into first gens and they are cheap to make fast but break like no other! my one buddy has a '91 ...stock turbo bout 18 psi w/ boost controller....header...and 3"downpipe and it does about mid to high 14's but from what i hear you are supposed to launch them at like 6 grand (no wonder they break so much) but like everyone else is saying they are bottom end cars ....even in a street race if you start from a roll you might not have to play catch up but either way long enough distance and you should walk on him hard! i personally HATE dsm's tho! long live the pony!

I had a Talon hand me my ass at the track a few weeks ago!!

Surprised the hell out of me to say the least

I ran a 12.1 @ 118 to his 10.86 @ 133

Talk about a sleeper - it even had stock wheels.

Unfortunately never got to talk to the owner about his car / mods.

Sounds like it will be a close race, If its on the street my money is on him though. Be sure that he is truthful with the boost, they can handle plenty more than 14psi.

I have 2 friends with 1G TSI's, larger turbos and whatnot.....They run anywhere from 25-32psi and have been anywhere from 11.4-10.9 in the quarter trapping 135 mph!

Saw one go 9.6 @ 140+ and get tossed on a Wed night for not having the equipment to go that fast. We have a lot of fast DSMs around here (my dyno guy's shop is in the same building with a big DSM place).

Much like a 5.0 mustang, you never know what you're going to get when you line up against one of those. Seems the more beater/sleeper they look, the quicker they are. I had a friend that had a 1G going 13.00's at 109 (2nd gear was basically out of it). Basically just had fuel system mods, the super afc, and a 16G turbo. After blowing his 3-bolt rear at the track, he put a 4-bolt in it, but sold it before fixing the tranny and hitting 12's. He was cutting 1.8 60 ft. times without even really beating on it.
