I did a quick search and didn't find much help. I'm planning on changing the gears in my car to 3.73's, but what else is needed or should be changed at this time? I know I'll need to buy an installation kit and traction-loc rebuild but is there anything else I should get? Also where's a good place to pick up the installation and traction-loc rebuild kits? Thanks.

you will also need a dial indicator and a magnetic base to check backlash, access to a press for the bearings on the pinion and carrier, I used a machinist scale to check pinion depth, some calipers for rebuilding the traction lock, an inch/pound torque wrench for the pinion bearing preload or whatever you call it, something to hold the yoke when you break the pinion nut lose and when you torque it back on(I fabricated a bar with the four bolt hole pattern to hold it), someguys use screwdrivers, if your replacing the pinion bearings you will need something of the same dia. to install, I didn't replace axle bearings but if you do you need something to push those out.

I did not know that their was so much involved with changing the rear gears, I'm glade this came up. Not to highjack but do you guys know what a shop might charge for this? Asuming you have the gears and the rebuild kit, just labor costs..?
