What's the best catback and mid-pipes for the buck?

Well if you are in CA the only midpipe with a CARB number is Magnaflow. As for the catback it all is preference of sound. For a street car neither the H or X is better. If you like the deep muscle car sound get the H if you like the nascar sound get the X.

i would get mac if i were you i prefer mac over any exhaust

I went with mac pro dumps, and Unknown brand H-pipe, And mac is 10x better than flowmasters(2chamber) and flowmaster 3 chamber mufflers from my experience, Mac pro dumps were the best sounding and $200 cant be beat and they bolted right up, oh and for a hp gain, I did notice more power, flow suck in the power department. Flowmasters have lots of 2k rpm drone. Mac had less drone and were louder at idle and in the rpms, with way less drone, the best sounding imo is mac pro dumps. Pure BA muscle car sound, with almost no Drone

I like Bassani X pipes but there pricey and flowmaster american thunder catback. But mac products are good also!

This is the exact setup I am running and that's where I purchased it.

This gives you a 100% stainless steel setup (all pipes and mufflers) at a great price.

The only negative is the tips are kinda lame (I think 3" tips are too big) but I will switch those out later if I can find a smaller set cheap. Otherwise for the money, I can live with them.

I have hedman headers and 2 1/2" hooker exhaust with an H pipe on my 88 GT. I LOVE THE SOUND. The only thing is that I have Dynomax turbo mufflers that I want to switch out for SLP Loudmouth resontators.

I have a Mac catback and like it as well. It sounds nice, similar to flows but a little more agressive. It's one of the louder catbacks available for these cars.

I was running a Mac off road H but switched to a Pypes X just to try a different sound. Both were good quality and fit really well, and both sound great with the Mac exhaust too, it just comes down to preference. The H gave the car a nice deep, loud, rumbly muscle car tone; while the X sounds smoother and higher pitched in the upper RPM's, somewhat like a modern race car.

I like that the X toned down the 2000 RPM drone that was pretty noticeable with the H pipe... It's also quieter under 3000 rpms but still gets plenty loud when you step on it. I drive a LOT so it's nice to have a setup that isn't just loud all the time.

I have BBK shorty's, Hedman O/R H pipe and series 40 Flowmaster catback w/ 2.5 pipes. I got the flowmaster set up for 299.99

Jeg's off-road X-pipe (3-piece design with crossmember hangers, easy as hell to install, cheap price) and Pypes's Violator cat-back (good price on a stainless setup that sounds AWESOME).

+1 on the Magaflow catback.

I run mine with MAC shorty headers and a CarSound (Magaflow's parent company) H-pipe. No complaints with either and both are very reasonably priced.

H pipes have a slightly deeper sound than an X, but supposedly X's flow better.
