Is it worse to floor it from a stop up till like 60mph....OR is is worse to floor it while you do like 25mph so the tranny downshifts from 3rd and hooks second up to 60mph?

What would wear things out faster..? Whe're talkin a 4r70w btw.

What you should NOT do is WOT and let off when it shifts.

neither one. you are driving a sequential shifting 1-3 tranny. the weak, and i do mean weak point, is 3-od shift. it is a synch shift. tranny releases 3 and uses timing to grabs O/D. surge kills bands. i am going to put a 3 way switch with grounding resistor to turn off converter lock-up during racing. also set your 3-od shift as high as possible. i just don't race to 3 - od to avoid tearing it up.

You can't, this is not like other boards, an Admin has to assign one to you for something you say in a thread

Drink a gallon of apple juice. Wait until you cannot hold your pee any longer. Let go only 1 ounce to relieve yourself and then stop. Do not let any more go.

What he's saying is, don't build up massive pressure and have no "direct" avenue of release.

Thanks alot guys, yeah i usually leave OD off cause i'm rarely above 50mph for a long time...lots of stop and go driving.

What about like normal driving, i have a habit of (from a stop/red light) giving it gas and it'll go to about 3200rpms in first bringing me to like 25mph then laying off the gas so it shifts smoothly into 2nd, 3rd etc. Almost like a manual, you know how you shift at 3200rpm in first to get some power before going to second/or just to hear the car wind up.

Don't get me wrong, i don't beat on my car anymore after the rebuilt 4r70w was put in, and i just want to know like the do's and don'ts.. (yes i've read the www.tccoa.com articles)..

Sounds like you would enjoy a tuner to trim your shift points.

i don't know but i just go smoothly in the streets, but when i do get on it that pedal don't come of the floor and i make sure the o/d is off. I dont wind it up and then let off it's like getting the car exited for nothing either go all the way or dont do it at all.

you might as well go to redline, if your transmission would shift at 4k if you don't let off, your not doing your transmission or your gas mileage any favors by forcing a downshift.

Beacuase mustangs are too small to carry shovels to pick up the parts you will scatter on the ground.

I agree that 3-od shifting a wot isnt good...I drive around with the od off until I get on the highway. I heard that staying out of OD will make your tranny last a long time, might not be good for gas, though I avg 200-220miles per tank regardlees if Im playing around or not.
