Wheelhousing modify for convertible

Has anyone replace the wheel housing on a 65-66 convertible? I see that the top of wheel housing are flatten for the convertible top. The new wheel housing I purchased do not have this flat spot and said to modify for a convertible. How do yo modify it, besides taking a sledge hammer to it? I cannot find anything on the web.
