When Did '93 Cobra Intakes Get This Expensive?

Ive had this powdercoated cobra intake and valve covers on car almost 9 years still like how it looks. Probably holding back my stroker a couple HP but not torque.

All that bling will add like what 25HP to make up for the intake? Do like your underhood pics. Nice job.really clean.

So, Fast Driver. You think it’ll be worth putting the Explorer intake on my stock motor? I know with heads and cam they make a huge difference, but I’ll throw it on if I can feel an improvement before I get to all that, which maybe a while, a long while.

Yes, absolutely. 10-15 hp swap. I would highly recommend a 65mm TB. 70mm is ok too, but the inlet port is around 68mm if I recall correctly. Stock TB TB and MAF are both restrictive, though. So, ideally the MAF, TB, injectors, and intake are all swapped together. But yes, you'll pick up 10-15 on the stock heads, and a Mass air car shouldn't need a retune.

Where are you? I happen to have an explorer, and 73mm MAF/24 lbs injectors if you're interested.

I’m in Albuquerque. My car is an 88 GT, speed density and I actually have the upper and lower already sitting on my parts shelf. I was told to use the my same injectors and fuel rails. I did however pull those off the explorer just in case. It also has the internal egr. I know about having to drill and tap for those two sensors. I’ve asked the same question and got different opinions on it. Some people say do it, some say it’s not worth it. But, for 10-15 hps, it’s worth it to me to put them on, because the heads and cam really won’t be in my budget for a while.

For stock heads..no. Not worth the $$.

Run the exporer 19# injectors of you have them. They have an optimized spray pattern that's more updated than the mustang ones. Use the mustang fuel rail.

Later on if you do big heads and want to keep the explorer intake, just pick up another lower and have that done. They are a dime a dozen....even for the less numerous -BA lower (egr equipped)

Here's my tmoss ported explorer lower waiting to get swapped out for my cobra lower. Just a sexy paperweight at the moment

Definitely just teasing. Would be really cool to see how you like the power bump.

Oh I know your messing. :)

I can't wait to dig into the motor too. I feel it's the last thing the car really needs. Need to refresh the suspension first with new springs/shocks/struts/cc plates/etc and then its motor time.

Then MS3 with COP conversion ;)

Mustang5l5, not worth throwing it on to you? What does tmoss charge and how long does it take to get back?

His quotes vary depends on what you are doing exactly but after shipping and any extras (drilling for act, coating, etc) you are in the ballpark of $300-400 give or take.

For stock e7s it's not necessary. The intake as is will outflow the head.

Intall the explorer intake, grab a 70 or 75mm egr spacer, modify the explorer 65mm TB if you have it, run the explorer 19s and you should expect 10-15 HP over 3000 rpm with no loss of low end torque.

Spend some money for the MAF conversion, my 88 is a Cali car with the MAF already. I got the heads, intake, throttle body and injectors from a 2000 Explorer at local pull a part. Put in an E cam and valve spring upgrade and polished up the ports myself, around $500 for all, pretty happy with the results.

Correct me if I'm wrong, fellas, but won't he be perfectly fine on SD with the intake and tb? Is that enough to need a tune? If it's fine, since you already have the parts, just use 'em and have fun. Worry about MAF, injectors, computer/harness, when you make the move to heads/cam.

I would appreciate anyone who would chime in to give their advice. Again, 88gt, SD, 3.73’s, z trans, cai, exhaust and every sensor has been replaced. Few other things. I bought this car all stock and kinda sketchy to drive and have made into a daily driver if I wanted to. (I don’t). Runs better than the other 3 foxes I’ve had. Car runs fantastic. Just like having a fun street able stang that could pull other 5.0’s. Intake is one of the next things to do and I think I would like to do it, even though I can’t afford heads/cam right now.

Yes. I'm still SD with the intake, TB and even headers. My car idles perfectly steady and runs well.

No need for mass air until bigger mods
