Hey all, just wondering when it's appropriate to upgrade my ignition. Of course, I'm thinking of getting an MSD. I will be getting a Zex wet kit in the next 18 months, so I'm just trying to plan accordingly. Should I look into this now, and if so, what parts should be upgraded?

Some folks say it helps with idle quality, even on stockish cars. Otherwise, the stock ignition is good for 350-400 HP NA.
But since you plan to spray, getting a box early cant hurt.

Good luck.

If you are going to run nitrous, the MSD Digital 6 Plus is a cool box to have. It has a timing retard you can connect to the power side of your nitrous solenoid. That way you don't have to manually pull back timing every time you are going to use the nitrous, and you can run full timing in N/A mode. Another thing to look at especially since you are going to run a wet system is an RPM activated window switch. It allows you to set what RPM you want the nitrous on and what RPM you want the nitrous off. Good luck.

I have thought about the window switch, and will go with it...shall I buy one now made by MSD or should I get a different one when I buy the Zex kit? If MSD, which one do you think works best? Sorry for all the questions, I'm just trying to be as informed as possible.

There is no need to apologize for the questions, that is what stangnet is here for. I am running the MSD digital RPM switch. I have not use any other switches, so I can not comment about the quality and performance of other switches. I like the MSD unit because you do not need any rpm pills to carry around.

So I'm looking at Summit Racing's site....what would you recommend as my exact setup with MSD Digital 6, blaster(which one 2 or 3?), cap, rotor, and digital RPM switch?

Summit part numbers
MSD-6520 (digital 6)
MSD-8207 (blaster SS) I am running the MSD-8253 (HVC-2 coil)
MSD-8482 or any good quality Cap and rotor set
MSD-8969 (RPM switch)

That is the exact set up I have and has not given me a problem. I recommended the blaster SS coil because the HVC-2 coil I am using is huge and requires some mods to make it fit. I have my battery in the trunk, so it was not suck a big deal for me. Good luck hopefully this will help you make your decisions.

well, i didnt even consider the blaster 3 or ss coils. infact, i dont even see a difference in the blaster 2 vs 3 coil. I had also forgotten bout the ss coil. It has over twice as much mA of current running through it than the blaster 2 so i called up summit and told them to cancel the blaster 2 and exchange it for the ss.
