Where did my coolant go????

Ok, so I start my car to move it out of the garage so I can wash it. I notice my low coolant light on. But there is no puddle of water/coolant, so my radiator isnt giving in again (its been replaced before). I check the resevour, and its empty, its never been empty tho.

you could have boiled off the water in the coolant, your rad cap could be bad, or you could have a leak that does not leave a puddle where you have seen it, or the escaping coolant burns off before reaching a point where it can drip.

i would fill it up (distilled water and coolant mix) and make the car all safe and stuff, and look for leaks. dont get hit by the fan or anything bad like that.

Radiator is full it should be. Just woundering where did the resevour fluid go .

Interesting. I didnt know the water would just separate from the coolant when it boils. Cool.

I havnt driven the car in about 4 days and it was fine before. So there should have been a puddle if it leaked. Ive gone out to clean it out every day, lol. Im use to seeing a nice green puddle under the nose of my stang

You could had an airpocket in the engine it finally worked it's way out and sucked the remaining coolant out of the reservoir

some people (me included) have topped a reservoir and/or the radiator with just water (no coolant on hand).....or if one runs too weak a mixture (mostly water) and the motor really heats up (230 ish) and/or the cap is not holding pressure (cap maintaining the 16 psi raises the boiling point).... then water boils away.
that was where i was goin with the comment. not directed at you, per se, but some ideas.

i have had leaks before that never reached the ground....but i got under there and saw the trail of deposits......

King of Cobras could be right (that does happen - depends if you have had the coolant serviced lately). or if your heater core is leaking, you will lose some....

my car burns oil and radiator fluid, i have to fill the radiator weekly with just water..... and the inside is rusted, i just assume its getting burned up.....i need a new radiator and if that doesnt work i'll rebuild my engine........

Go to the wrecker with a tape measure find a 85 t-bird with a 5.0 w/ac measure the rad if it's clean pull it. best $25 I ever spent.

After I changed my thermostat I had a small leak between the bottom of the housing and the intake. It would only develop enough pressure to leak when the car was warmed up. It would drip onto the top of the water pump get trapped in one of the castings and evaporate so I wasn't leaving puddles and it had me stumped for the longest time. I couldn't see the leak because of where it was. Finally the little green/brown stain started to build up on the water pump and I found it.

Check around your heater/radiator hoses and the water pump gasket.

Also, make sure it's not your heater core if you haven't already.

Chris, if they mixture is too much water, the water will naturally boil off. I say go to auto zone and get the pressure tester just to be sure.
