Just wondering which blower would be best suited for my car....heres the mods again. 96GT...PI swap/373's/aluminum driveshaft/flows/longtubes/o/r X/bbk cai/trickflow 75 mm throttlebody/trickflow intake plenum/pullies/shortthrow/bigger radiator.

looking to get around 360-390hp out of it. the pi motor is stock and will probably be that way for a while......the budget is pretty much tapped @ $2500. Thats right now though..it could go up within a month or so. I dont drive the car as a daily....maybe 3 times a week/less than 100 miles a week. but when i drive it, i really drive it. thats why i wanna boost it rather than spray it. any feedback would be appreciated....ANY s/c suggestions?

With your budget, you are best off buying a used Vortech S-trim (S or SQ) kit... Mongoose kits are nice if you can find one, they usually sell around that price.

You are honestly best off waiting until you have some more money to put into it. You WILL get some nickle dime parts coming at you, plus you will need to tune the car.

I'm not biased or anything ...(:D)... but spray it for 1/4 the cost.

I found a used D1SC pro-charger for $2,000 but all said and done spent 3,000, all the little stuff added up (gauges, regulator, rails, tuner etc.) but have not had it tuned or anything yet so have not let her loose. I'm hoping for around 400 to 420 on 7.5 psi pulley with all my other mods (ported heads and pi intake and cams). Then when your engine can handle it just swap the pulley and a way you go. The sound is just amazing, if your into that like I am. I not into the sleeper car, I want people to hear and fear me lol. Just visualize a V-8 sounding jet.:nice: O I have a 1998 mustang gt.

Having a PI motor/heads, you could also go the Tork Tech/used Eaton route:
Tork Tech manifold: $1900
Used Eaton from a Cobra or Lightning, and all the goodies that go along with it (heat exchanger, coolant resevoir, MAF, injectors, TB, plenum, etc.): $750
Tune: $300
Miscellaneous: $100

That comes out to $3150 for a positive displacement blower. Not bad at all. Although if it were me, and I wanted a PD blower, and SaleenGT2001 had that deal he has now, I'd probably go ahead and spend a little extra for the KB.

Or you can piece together a Paxton or Vortech for $2500ish give or take. But a centrifugal like a Vortech, Paxton, or Prochager will not give you the torque of a positive displacement blower. And in my honest opinion, the positive displacement blowers are a lot more fun than centrifugals. Ask me how I know. :D

My .02.

perhaps wait a while longer and save up money? especially for if/when something breaks on the car due to the added performance..

i wont be getting a blower until I can also afford at least the cost of another 4.6 2v just in case something unforeseen happens. that way if something breaks, regardless or what..engine or something else, the downtime is minimized

yes i play conservatively :p

my preference is a KB. ill go that route some day.

With your budget, I'd just keep saving until you can afford a used KB kit. I have a Vortech SQ, and while it sounds bad ass, its just not as fun IMO as driving a twins-screw. My car dyno'd 370/377, but truth is it doesnt feel that quick until I get above 4000 rpms.

Now a KB, instant torque! They're just so much more fun to drive, imo. However, they are pricier than a centri kit.

Good luck whatever you decide.

PD blowers are a lot of fun on the street. i loved driving my friends KB car. hell, he ran with my car from 15 to around 150 or so. he jumped me out the hole by 2 cars and it took all i had to catch him by the top of 4th

I thought my car was the bees knees until I got to drive my buddy's 2.1 KB. It just pulled, and pulled until he told me to let off :D

If not for other obligations, I would be very tempted to buy your KB kit.

To the OP, either choice is going to wake your car up. If you can, try to drive, or at least ride in, both a centri and a PD stang. Decide which is for you, and hold out for that one.

I agree, now I have ridden in my brothers '04 cobra (it was nasty), sadly it is no longer with us,

r.i.p. '04 screaming yellow termi.

if i had it to do over again i would have gone with a big KB and around 500 to the wheels. i just dont see any use in more power than that from a PD blower. the 1.7 was hard to take off on and get it to hook with under 450 to the wheels. i did love driving that car whenever i got the chance. even making over 150 less than my car it still felt a LOT faster!

I just got my KB 2.2L today. Yes its a 2.2 and not a 2.1 as it was a custom kit. I see them used for a couple grand from time to time but thats usually without a chip, FMU or injectors. Got mine used for well under $2000 and it only has 5000 miles on it.

But I like PD blowers because the power is instintanious. Makes the little 4.6 behave like a high reving big block. Its easier to make BIG numbers with a centri but for a DD that you want to have more fun in the 0-120 MPH range then a twin screw or Eaton is the only way to go. :nice:
