ok so i recently went v2 sq vortech'd w/ aftercooler and i blow the tires out of the water!!!! so i'm looking at a pair of drag radials...which should i get?? i have 3 choices...

pick 1, 2, or 3

1. Mickey Thompson E/T Streets - 275/40/17s (i believe that is the right size)

2. Nitto 555R's - 315/35/17s

3. BFG Drag Radials - 315/35/17s (trying to get the new style)

Which is the best and why? i need opinions

if the car sees normal street use, nittos are the only option. They are the only set that can be driven in the rain. I ran countless sets on my old car. Usually, around -6-8000 miles is typical with track use. You might get 10-14 without. However, dont expect them to hook better than good street tires on the street. They are designed to work well when the tire pressure is dropped and the they are heated up.

the other two, hook much better, with worse tread wear as well. All three are fine for the road, but if the car sees any bit of rain, nittos are the only option.

+1 on the Nittos in the rain. I put just over 10K on my Nitto's this past year and they still have a little life left. On the street, I thought the Nitto's hooked great. I have 4.10's and from a slow roll they would barely spin in first.

Nittos suck ass on the street I couldn't hook for s**t with them even at a 60mph roll theyd still spin a little.

BFGs would prolly work fine for your setup since your not making huge numbers and will have better tread life than MTs.

MTs are the best choice for hooking on the street and at the strip you can literally stick your finger nail into them.

WARNING: DO NOT DRIVE IN THE RAIN WITH THE LAST TWO!!!!

Myself and many like me have found this out the hard way. Even slowing down will not help your chances of traction in the rain. I wrecked my car drving in the rain coming back from Chicago. I wasn't going very, fast minimum speed on I-80 (45mph) and was doing a 360 before I could blink. This wasn't even in hard rain and I was just getting ready to pull off a 1/4 mile down the road at the rest stop but didn't make it. I wasn't even driving in rain 10mis before I wrecked too.

Sooo my choice would be MTs if you got the $$ and don't mind replacing them often and will NEVER drive them in the rain. If thats not the case then I would get a set of good street tries (BFG-KDW2s) because Nitto DRs suck. Then if you want something for the track use your old rims if you still have them or buy two rims and throw a set of MTs on them and change them out before you go to the track.

I ran 13.08 with just bolt ons in my 03...That was before the heads and cams.. I have ran the nittos and the e.t street radial. The nittos hook ok for bolt on cars, and do great in the rain.. But the e.t. street radials do hook better on the street but suck in the rain... I would run nittos on the street for a daily driver and run e.t. street slicks at track that is what i do.

No offense to any one but everyone telling you to get Nittos are guys with NA Mustangs not making much power. Hell I had an auto and I could blow the tires off with my Nittos. THEY SUCK!

One day I almost lost to a POS Civic with a fart pipe because I had to let off 4 times. They were like 5 cars ahead of me when I caught traction and blew by them. My cousin looks over at me and goes "Dude you almost lost". That was the day I ordered my MTs.

This was also without most of my mods, I just had Supercharger, IC, and 3.25 pulley at the time with exhaust and 4.10 gears.

MIckey Thompson hands down for DR's but I do not recommend driving on them daily. Really bad idea if you want them to last for one and safety in the rain the other. DR's have a softer compound and don't last very long when used as a daily tire.

We have a guy on our race team who attempted Nitto's on a '07 Shelby and couldn't get them to hook up at all. He changed to a straight slick just to get the traction needed to hook the car up properly.

I agree Nitto's for little or no mods work great but other than that wouldn't use them.

PS- invest in an extra set of wheels for the DR's and don't play Russian roulet with your life and your car in the bad weather.

I have Mt 315/35/17's I couldn't be happier with them. I have drove a few times and the rain and it wasn't to bad. The newer wider 17's from MT have an improved thread pattern. I picked up .5 in the 1/4 the very first time I used them and .9 over all. They also handle well at higher air pressures.

Here's the new pattern.
