Stock GT40P stock need hot taking probably will need surfaced and valve job. $220 the guy may take less

The E7 guy said him and his brother basically had the same car and his car with the E7 would pull his brothers on topend everytime.

My overall goal is 12's.

I highly doubt that the ported E7's gained him the equivalent of 60hp using the old formula, 10hp per tenth.

With no other changes, hmm....

Gt40P's require a special header, or doing some 'customizing' to your #6 spark plug and boots if I recall.

If on a budget, go with the ported E7's in my opinion.

Thjat was my thought's I had read that some people had to modify or tun a diff. header on the p's but then noticed some said they just went with a 90 degree boot on those heads so it is a tough decision, I may go with the E7 b/c I am looking at another $200 to get the P's usable

GT40P's down to $175 bucks, 88,000 miles will need hottanking and I am guessing surfaced and possible valve grind.

Any suggestions

If the E7's are ready to go on without hot tanking and resurfacing, go with those.

I say buy 'em both and resell the GT40p heads, use what you make to pay for gaskets etc to install the E7's.

trying to see what kind of market for the P heads in NC as there is a set selling on ebay for $150 just don't want to spend $175 on the p's as well and not be able to sell them.

You ain't gonna get 60 horses from grinding around on an old pair of E7's

I'd not guarantee you would find 60 horses from Aluminum heads :Word:

Over the years, on more than one occasion, I've seen data that shows
properly ported E7's will flow more than a set of GT40's

Of course ... if you compare ported E7's & ported GT40's ... thats different

Those 88K 40p's most likely have springs that are on their last legs I'd bet

Sounds like the E7's are the better value to me between the two options

Yeah seemed a little crazy for 60hp from just heads, b/c the thumper heads are only 30hp @ 5000RPM. The guy I am buying them from ran this setup for his 12.9x. If I get in the 13.xx I will be happy for now.

Yeah, after looking into it a bit more, I have to say a 60 horsepower claim/time loss, is a bit on the silly side I think even AFR only says they claimed 41hp with just the headswap alone. Plus you lose 30-40 lbs on top of that...

I like the E7 idea myself out of those two options anyways...

I will say the 10hp gain per 1/10 in et reduction that has been around for
as long as I can remember is a good rule of thumb

Then again

The rule of thumb we speak here is flywheel hp
so
60 fwhp x .85 = 51 rwhp

We both picked up on the fact of one or the other

More was done than a head swap
or
The amount of et reduction was embellished ... just a tiny bit

Go with the ported E7's, especially if they don't need resurfacing or a valve job.
Like the others, I find it hard to believe that the seller gained 0.6sec from the ported heads. It takes a 15% increase in HP to produce such a gain and that would be 37rwhp on a 250rwhp engine. Realistically I think the HP and ET gains from ported E7's are about half of the aforementioned numbers i.e. ~20rwhp and 0.3sec. Still a useful gain and great value at just $11 per HP.

Now I think you are getting somewhere

That cam matches better with the potential powerband you will have and the E7 style casting..

I really like the trickflow stage 1 for a budget camshaft, but I think with that cam, you are getting in the ball-park.

You may not NEED a tune, but a tune would be nice to iron out some idle and low rpm kinks that you may encounter.

Something you may want to consider, since you are going with ported E7's, more than likely, contact Thumper who knows his E7's. He has a couple older style camshafts like the one you mentioned that he likes to recommend, but I would hate to speak on their idle quality with the ECU of the sn-95 cars. Although, I know it can be done

I know you realize there are better camshafts out there like from the custom cam gurus...but for a budget, your getting there
