Never let the 5.0 guys speak out on modular stuff I guess LOL! So much confusion!

96-01 Cobra = aluminum blocked
03-04 Cobra = iron blocked

see how simple that was? ;) venture out of the 5.0 cave for a little while, it wont hurt, I promise. ;)

I posted it in the 4.6 forum too....not very good response :D

I think y'all covered the weight part...my guess is a 4v motor is heavier because of the heads. Anyways, since '03 Cobra motors are still so expenseive....i'd suggest buying a built 4v block, like you'd do for a 302, and then look into ******ing a used Eaton off someone who just got a KB. You might end up with a stronger short block than stock and save some money vs. a new production setup.

And by the way...i think the censorship is getting a bit out of hand...you can't say s n a t c h?

Main Entry: 1******
Pronunciation: 'snach
Function: verb
Etymology: Middle English snacchen to give a sudden snap, seize; akin to Middle Dutch snacken to snap at
intransitive senses : to attempt to seize something suddenly
transitive senses : to take or grasp abruptly or hastily; also : to seize or grab suddenly without permission, ceremony, or right
synonym see TAKE
- ******·er noun

Don't get me started on the slang term, i'm not 11 years old. But c'mon, i wasn't even thinking along those lines.

All iron 302 would mean, iron heads. That is 50lbs a piece. 4v heads are 70lbs a piece. 40lb difference total.

I hope some don't get the bulkiness confused with the "feeling" of weight. I'm sure it weighs more, but not condiserably more...if at all. Surely someone has the dry weight of the engines somewhere...

Well, the 4V engine would be sans A/C, not like that makes much of a difference. I would need to retain P/S however as i will need it for the hydroboosted brakes. Don't really have much of an option with this as the vacuum booster would hit the valve cover.

If i stuck with a 302, it would be sans A/C and converted to manual steering.

I'm just wondering if i were to slip a 4V in would i turn the car into a nose-heavy pig? I really wanted to try to shave some weight off the nose with AL heads (302 head) a fiberglass hood and ditching the P/S system.

I'd love to do the 4V swap as i want a challenge, but i don't want to end up adding 300 pounds to the nose and creating a car that can't take a turn any more :(

Just food for thought....a tubular K member and A arms and a nice coilover setup can probably make up for whatever weight the engine might add.

True, but i was planning that anyway with the original 5.0...plus perhaps a CF hood.

Plus i just remembered that a t-45 or a t-3650 would weigh slightly more than a t-5 so there's a slight gain right there.

I'm just starting to wonder if an aluminum headed 302 sans P/S , A/C and smog with a k-member, a-arms and such and a t-5 would be more practical and result in a lighter car.

Then again, a 4V fox is just cool.

decisions decisions.

Does anyone make a tubular k-member that can run BOTH a 5.0 and a 4.6??? that way i can buy it and install and not have to worry about what i decide on

You may have already stated it, but what is your goal? DD, corner carver, or dragster?

The 4V will put an extra 140 pounds (each head) up higher (center of gravity) than the OHV 302 engine.

Ideally, an all around car, but i would lean more on turning and braking ability vs all out straight line speed.

Still with that said, i won't be entering it into any sort of competitive racing. Maybe a drag pass here and there, an autocross competition and maybe so laps on a road course for fun.

However, i want something to make my car really stand out.
