Which one would you rather own/drive and why?

I'll be getting a new car within the next year and I honestly think that $25k is enough to spend on a new car and still get a cool looking one. My 2 choices would have to be the VW GTI(turbo) or the Mini Cooper Type S? I'm not sure the pros and cons of each, so if you're familiar, fill me in, please.

I would pick the GTI...cuz I love them. I dunno if I like how the Mini looks...too "cute" for my tastes. why not get a GTI R32? They're pimp and a half.

my wife just bought a '00 honda prelude and it kicks ass. i work around Mini's and they break---ALOT.

same with the VW's, just not quite as bad as the MINI's--they break down ALOT.

we looked at focus', but the SVT model has some specific parts that are pricey to replace--clutches for instance, and they eat up the clutches.

If you had to choose between those two, I'd go with the Veedub. Although volkswagon has been having some quality issues lately, the Mini is WAY too much of a chick car unless you're one of those effeminate European men who wears one of those purse things.

One thing I forgot to mention was that this vehicle would be driven mainly by my wife. I'd drive it from time to time and would like to be able to have a "quick"/economical car. Can the wrx be had for $25000 or less? Since I'm in the market, what cars would you guys recommend?

I read that the Mazda3 is all the balls right now. Plus, its a Ford company so you're staying in the family.

i hear you about getting the wife a decently sporty car---good for the resale value right?

for 25k i would stay away from european cars altogether as most in that range will be lower end and suffer from base model european car reliability.

rsx type-s. celica gt-s. cobalt ss. ion redline. mustang. civic si. examples of new cars.

if you consider used then 350z(if you don't have kids), 97-01 prelude, 99-01 integra gsr, marauder(gas is getting cheaper ), 03 cobra, etc.....

i get around 365-370 miles per tank if i dont rape on it. got mine for 24,900 brand new, ordered the way i wanted it, 2.4 miles on the bitch.

If you have to spend the whole 25K, you could get the 06 GT or a Mazda 6 Sport. WRX would be a great choice, too.

You could get a 1-2 year old Subie or Mazda 6 and save a bunch of dough, though. I hate the thought of the first year depreciation of a new car.

I agree - get something a couple years old. You're a smart guy who can fix the occasional glitch that arises, and otherwise you should be good for quite a few miles before really needing things done (it seems like each generation of cars are able to get more miles in them before stuff starts farting out).

It's a tough call because it involves Mrs Nacho. She might not even like something sportier and want something like an SUV (I'm sure you asked, but it was worth bringing up - it'd suck if she hates the new car).

Good luck with the decision. That's a LOT of coin.

Hissin, luckily for me, she's not big on SUVs. She's about 5'1" and doesn't like those huge things, plus, I don't think I'd let her drive one cause.... well, women drivers, you know. She likes the ford escape which is nice and small. You guys do bring up a good point about cars losing value, a 1-2 yr old car is an option.

Bimmer, yep, the resale value will be higher on those cars.

I've never really liked the focus and haven't seen the SVT ones, anyone got any pics?

Quoted for truth. These things have like 250hp out of the box, and are as small as any VW.

I would definitely look into one of these.
