Which springs to get for comfort?

I want to drop my car but also get a better feel...Right now every bump on the street I feel really hard (its like the springs don't do anything)...Whats a good set of springs that will lower my 01 gt and feel better, i don't care much about cornering/handling and stuff since i don't race it, i just want it to drive smoothly.. I was set on the Eibach pros but then i started reading everywhere that they are stiff and i think thats what my problem is

frpp c springs, they lower it just enough to retain the comfort, i didnt notice any reduction in driving comfort when i put mine on

Eibach pro kit isnt much stiffer than stock & it lowers the car about 1.5 inches. Its all about the spring rate & how stiff your stuts & shocks are.

Keep in mind you want to match your springs with the strut/shock combo and definitely get a progressive rate spring with no more than 1.5" drop.

Im not worried about the drop, the car is my daily driver so i don't care much on how it looks at this point...after a couple of weeks with it, it sucks ass...I thought it was because it was a sports car but i have driven celicas/camaros and they are not as horrible as mustangs (even my jetta drives better), i thought it was my car but i went to a dealer to test drive one and its the same thing...you hit a bump and its a roller coaster, i basically jump from my seat..

Is there a way to put the suspension/springs of a different car on a mustang?

Depends on how much you want to spend, time you want to waste and headaches to endure. I put in FRPP C springs nearly 3 years ago and have no complaints. It rides much better.

Why tell him to get new springs??? go get a different car if you only want a smooth ride. the ride will be the same or only get stiffer even with ford c springs or eibach pro kit. (it will corner and handle better, but it WILL NOT be smoother)

your stock shocks are probably old and crappy also....you're not really going to get a smoother ride with any aftermarket springs unless you replace the shocks and struts. you should really think about investing in some quality shocks and struts, but even then, i can almost guarantee you wont be happy with the ride quality you're looking for.

FYI....the car will never ride much smoother than it does now. of course its going to be a more rocky ride than a jetta or celica...its a frickin mustang!! go buy a used benz or bmw if you want that luxo-boat slush box ride.

hey man.......... a quick fix that should make a difference for ya....

just go on ebay and pick up a set of monroe sensa traks for your car if you'd like to make a nice cheap improvement...they're maybe $160 and good quality.... and should make a noticeable diff..

I agree too.... forget about the springs and focus on the shocks.......

and unless I'm reading you wrong...your biggest concern is the sloppiness you feel with the stock suspension right? if you have a jetta you're looking for a "tight controlled" ride right?

How much air pressure are you running in your tires, sounds like your shocks
and struts could be wasted. And are you sure the springs are OE.

Yeah....turning and handling is great and at fast speeds no problem, i llove how it turns, what I don't like is when i go over a speed bump (there are alot by my house) the entire cars moves sided to side and up and down, every other car i get in (no matter what the car) when i drive by a speed bump it seems like the suspension takes the hit/impact but the rest of the car feels fine (a little rough but hardly notcieable), with a mustang it feels like the tires are on metal rods and no suspension installed since all the impact is felt all over ...

maybe im looking to change the wrong part then, I think by the comments i need new struts

As far as the parts being OE, im not sure since i bought it used

The guys who say go for the struts/shocks are correct.
Lowering the car is going to make it handle better but will do nothing for comfort and some would say it gets worse.
Even the FRPP catalog says something like that in the spring section I believe.
Also make sure your tire pressure is set to what the door sticker says and not the sidewall of the tire. Assuming you are stock of course.

Do the cheapest fixes first. Don't forget about some new polyurethane isolators. They will help and they are cheap along with some new shocks.

go take a look on ebay..........

if you don't want to get carried away and really aren't to be digging far into suspension mods in the future I really don't think you'll need anything more then the monroe's.....and they're good quality...

if you wanted to spend a little more you can get tokico hp's for under $300 but don't think they'd necessarily be better for what you're looking for......

shock/strut install is very simple if you're planning on doing it yourself too....

I have a bout $600-$700 to spend on suspension so whatever I can get with that, Ill be installing it with my uncle

well.......do you want to lower it?

you don't really need to spend just to spend.......
if you're doing all this just for comfort I wouldn't really get to deep into it man, spend about 200 and be done....... If your going to use/want the performance and don't mind if it comes at the cost of a firmer but yet more composed ride then do the shocks/struts and springs.

It seems to me that u arent used to the characteristics of a solid rear axle car. When u go over bumps in a solid axle car the shock is transmitted through the whole car & its not gonna be as smooth as a car with independent suspension like a Celica.
Maily daily driver 86 Jetta GLI handles better stock, than my Stang with full suspension...

I drove a 2000 SS Camaro 6 spd for the first time the other night & although it felt smoother than my stang, it also felt much sloppier in the turns. Granted, it was bonestock with over 100k miles compared to my stiff, modified suspension, stang, but imo the stock handling was horrible.

I agree that u should look into a good set of shocks/struts first like Bilsteins, Tokicos, or KYB's. Then look into lowering the car, although this will make the ride even harsher.

I used to detail cars awhile back, it was about 2-3 miles between our shop and the dealer we serviced so I had the chance to drive a wide selection of cars. The suspension on the GT's does seem too soft, to the point where bumps are uncomfortable. I noticed right away driving the Mach 1 that it rides so much smoother, it soaks up bumps that would bottom out in a GT. Its not as plush as an air ride Mark 8, or a Lexus GS300 but its a good improvement.

I'd say since you want a better ride, go for the bullitt suspension kit, its pretty cheap, should ride better and give you a small drop. Then you can spend the rest of the money on something else.
