Hi guys,
I was in at the dealer last week discussing which super charger to buy. I now have all winter to figure this out, but as you can imagine I have too many options. The dealer wants to use a ford super charger, I think that the kenne bell will allow me to "grow" as I want to do more with the car. My car will be a daily driver (off the road once the snow falls) with possibly more time as an autocross car. I an not going with turbo or centrifigul. What about the new edelbrock? What all do you guys have and what are the pros and cons? I will eventually be able to build up the engine to handle more boost, which is why the kenne bell mammoth type seems to be calling my name. Also, I would like to put nitrous on the car some day, more to impress my young son than anything. Might not happen but would be fun.
Long story short, what is the best type supercharger for me to have fun with and grow with. The car is an 06 gt stick. I will be chewing on this until spring, but that is when I will have it done. Do any of you know a good shop in the maine or northern new hampshire area? My dealer is casco bay ford, they seemed to know what they were talking about, I just croak at the price for work there. I have a patient who is a ford mechanic who has offered to do the work for me, so again I have options. Sometimes the dealer seems good to me, as I don't have much time anymore to work on the car, I'd rather be driving it.
thanks for your input,
Doc

the edelbrock has not been released yet. they are showing it at SEMA right now. pricing is expected to be announced soon. being a TVS blower, it has great potential. since you have all winter, hang tight and see what information and new products are released between now and then.

the FRPP is a good blower, with a FORD tune, so its safe. the dealer probably wants you to buy it so they can make money on the blower too. take your time and research, its time well spent and can save you money. dont forget additional parts like plugs, clutch, fuel delivery, etc. check to see what is included in the kit, as some kits dont include everything and some do. i mentioned the clutch since it wont hold big power for very long. some blowers have to be removed to install a new clutch. may be a good idea to upgrade the clutch at the same time to avoid repeating work.

good luck!

The Ford supercharger that the dealership is recommending is a Whipple blower, which is capable of a lot of horsepower, probably pretty comparable with the Kenne Bell. Kenne Bell blowers usually can only be installed by a certified shop. I have heard of a few people will customer service issues with Kenne Bell. As far as the Edlebrock blower, there isn't much information out there yet. The Roush/TVS blower is another option, it has a lot of power potential as well. Saleen is another twin screw blower that is popular, usually some decent deals out there if you shop around. Any of these superchargers are capable of a lot of power, more than the stock internals can handle. Have fun making your decision.

Excuse me? serious? I myself installed my Kenne Bell, and I know several several other people that have done the same. Actually, everyone I knew with a Kenne Bell, installed it themselves.

Not this guy...they treat me very well everytime I've ever dealt with them.

All opinion

Hey Doc I have an 06 GT 5 speed as well. It has a polished Ford Racing Whipple Supercharger on it which comes from the supplier with a 3.875 6 pound pulley. It is non intercooled and is good for up to 12 pounds. Whipples customer service is awesome and the kits are very user friendly with pictures and checklists to provide for a very easy install. This kit includes everything you will need (new injectors, spark plugs, and odds and ends) except for the flash tool for the ecm, which you can also purchase from ford racing. I have the ford racing 400 hp flash tool which is not tuneable but is a very easy and SAFE tune and works perfectly with the whipple kit. The kit was right at $5000 and an extra $1000 for the intercooled version which is good for almost 20 pounds of boost. Whipple is one of the quietest superchargers made (good for some, but others may want to hear it more, if you are the latter Kenne Bell is for you). Overall I love my whipple and it looks great too. Most all SC's have different pulley sizes which will instantly give you higher boost numbers which equal smiles.:D:D Hope that helps a little.

Sorry flyboy, didn't mean to step on your toes. When I was looking around doing the same research that Dr. Smith is doing, I thought I found some places that would only sell the Kenne Bell installed. I am glad that you have had a good experience with your Kenne Bell, I know they make a good blower.

My dealer installed my Kenne Bell. It has been flawless since I bought it.
I bought this car in January 2006. I have been a customer of Kenne Bell for thirty years, since Jim Bell built the fastest Buick Stage 1 cars in the 1970s.
Two and a half years of drag racing this convertible and I am still on the original belt.

I went with the FRPP Whipple HO Gen II polished and pully'd for 10 psi (3.5"). I preferred the dual in-tank fuel delivery option in this kit to the fuel delivery upgrades in the other kits. I did the install myself and relocated the intake air temperature sensor as an upgrade. I also installed extra gauges (boost, AFR, fuel press) and a raptor shift light. I ran the FRPP Procal tune initially but then had the car dyno tuned. I didn't upgrade the clutch and it's now fried so will be doing that this winter. I'm also considering a complete engine build, a TR6060 swap, and converting the 6-rib to an 8-rib in order to have the option to go to higher boost and will be doing these over the next year or two. One consideration for me was that I like the old school look of the Whipple vs the look of the Saleen or the new Edelbrock.

what did you all spend to have the dealer install your super chargers? I need to check with mine. I'm still not sure if I want to do it myself. I have only rebuilt one engine, although I have restored/rebuilt a few cars, of the british type. That was years....years ago!

The Whipple install is straight forward and relatively easy, just time consuming. It took me about 14 hours for the HO kit. I can email you the Whipple install manual if you want to check it out. It's a great kit and it's got everything you'll need except tools and coolant. The intercooler and heat exchanger are the largest out there. The kit uses a lot of Ford OEM parts and everything is engineered very well.

I'd like to see the new Techco and Edelbrock systems coming out soon.

The FORD RACING H.O. 500hp blower is my recommendation, it is a twin screw intercooled whipple and you can't go wrong with that. It also is market as a FRPP unit so it's quality, reliable, and the tune is safe for all driving conditions and yet gives you 200 BHP. Thats very good. :D

I would try and get a hold of a TVS supercharger. I really like that Edelbrock kit but it isn't out just yet. Problem with those, however due to the high power potential the temptation is there to push the limits of the stock bottom end so watch yourself.

I asked myself the same question not long ago. I choose Whipple. I did the research. I think the weak link in my opinion was the fuel delivery. I wasn't comfortable with the "boost-a-pump system. I was on the other hand very comfortable with the GT500 twin fuel pumps the Whipple system offered. The whole HO system they offer was technically sound and very easy to install. Tech support was awsome...for my money...(and that was considerable) the whipple is the way to go.
