So my gf bought a new car a couple weeks ago and now we have too many cars. I was origionally going to sell her 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo privately (did not trade it in cause we wouldn't gotten **** for it). Now I own a 99 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4. The truck is flawless mechanically wise(decent exterior), but the jeep is another story mechanically. The damn thing keeps loosing coolant and has been doing it for a while and I know why, it has a damn crack on the head(I6) I guess it's pretty common problem for those year jeeps. Here is the thing, I don't want to sell it like that. I would like to fix it. Damn thing is loaded too, power everything, moonroof, heated leather seats(drivers quit working though), but it gets ****ty mpgs, best we can get is 15 if we are lucky. I can get 18-19 in my truck, both mixed driving.
Pros about the jeep over the truck(besides being loaded) is that it has more power and torque(4.0L vs 3.0L). My truck can't get up to speed for ****. I can fit more people in it comfortably than the truck.
Pros about the truck over jeep; has been more dependable, a little better mpgs, more practical cause of the bed(but jeep has a lot of room when back seats are down). Did I mention it was more dependable??

Oh, I owe $5K on the truck and $7k on the Jeep. So which one should I sell and why? Thanks!!

Unload the truck. Fix the Jeep. Should be cheap and easy. I have a Cherokee with the 4.0. I get 22mpg all the time. The Jeep will (as mentioned) comfortably hold 4 adults. It will also pull 5000lbs. Perfect for pulling a boat to the lake. Plus, Jeeps don't seem to lose their value as quickly.

I went throught this, myself. Was trying to decide which to buy. My kids don't ride to work with me, so a Ranger was on the list. They do ride with me on the weekends, the Jeep was the only one that made sense.

well if you need to get rid of one i would get rid of the truck i hate nothing more personaly that putting a lot of money into a vehicle and then selling it for cheap and getting nothing out of it...you say you owe 7k on it and thats all it will probley bring privately so dumping a grand into the engine and then selling it would make me mad...but it always seems to be the way i sell vehicles.... the jeep is more practical for a family if you plan on having one or already do...there versitile....also your mpg seem really low my friend has one and gets 20 easily...so maybe theres something else you need to look into

What kind of car did she get?

If you can put 4 people in it sell the jeep.

If you have a house or need to move anythign sell the jeep.\

If you are simply looking for a 4wd people mover sell the truck... that mpg difference is negligable.... especially if you don't drive it that much...

My personal stable cosists of the 3 needed cars:
Sports car (94 GT vert)
Truck (03 dakota CC 4wd, wish I had a full-size with the new house though)
Family Car (05 Ford 500 SEL AWD)

She bought a 07 Honda Civic EX sedan w/navi. <---Hate the driver, not the car.

Specs for truck:
1999 Ford Ranger XLT auto 4x4 supercab stepside 3.0L V6
99,100 miles
Horsepower 150 @ 5,000 rpm; 185 Torque (lb-ft) @ 3,750 rpm

Jeep:
2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo auto 4x4 4.0L I6
100,150 miles Leather w/front heat, moonroof.
Horsepower 195 @ 4600 RPM Torque (lb-ft) 230 @ 3000 RPM

To my surprise(then again not) kbb says the truck is worth more then the jeep if I sold them privately, $7180 vs $6930. I know I won't get that much but if I sold the truck I would be able to get more than I owe on it. Then I would fix the jeep and drive it until next year then get something else. This is what I'm leaing on doing as of now.

What do you guys think??

The other thing too is what car will sell faster... probably the truck... so while I would vote against selling the truck for $$ reasons I am sure that this makes the most sense...
