Went to the local meet ups couple weeks ago and this fellow mustang owner first asked me what kind of blower I had because he heard my car whining. I told him it was just my MAC Straight Shot intake and he told me that my idler pulley was bad. I got my motor built a couple of months ago with p&p heads and comp cams. Before I got the motor built, you could hear the intake whine then after the heads got done it whined even louder. I was told it whined louder due to the fact that the motor was ingesting more air. So is it true my idler pulley has gone bad?:bang:

Also, I never heard this sound until after I installed the intake. If it happens to be the idler puley, is this a major problem and will it hurt my motor's performance?

Remove the belt and inspect the pulleys. Make sure they arent wobbling on the bearings. If needed, remove the pulleys and check for squeaks. The idler pulleys should only be $5-$10, next to all the other mods this should be pretty minor. If the pulleys werent replaced when the motor was rebuilt it wouldnt hurt to get some new ones. Bad bearings in your pulleys can rob you of horsepower. Not much but every little bit counts.:D

I just purchased a new Belt Tensioner pully at the parts store yesterday for $15. Usually the bearings go bad, and squeal very annoyingly. Simple fix, 10 minute job.:nice:

If its the pulley, its a easy fix. They tend to chirp like a bird when going bad until they start to squeal. This isn't something you want to let go. Its a $10 fix. Get yourself a Haynes Manual for your car and read up some.
