my ol DD s10 good ol truck

leme know what u think. car looks the same but the engine has cleaned up over time since i rebuilt it. heres an old engine pic

5th gear went out in my t5, i pulled it out and am having a guy going to fix it, not a shop just a ford dealersip tranny guy who will do it in is free time, hes been busy and hasnt really got around to doing anything yet, i told him to take his time. i would be more motivated to get it running but my truck is a nice dd and i just got the money to pay for work. i will get 5th and grinding 4th gear fixed and prolly replace the synchros and bearings, if i am there i might as well right.

i got that new 70 mm PP TB for cmas and i hogged out the upper for a good match. and now my cheap ebay CAI is too small the silicone wont go over the tb and crap. so i orders some straight alum tubing, and like 10 inches of silicone tubing. i sized it just right so its going to a nice 70mm or more all the way to the TB. prolly wont make a power difference, but i am going to fabricate and weld the whole CAI myself. i think it will have a cool look to it. i also have some SFCs i need to put on also. and i am thinking of some new headlights and control arms for the rear.

i took a small die grinder and used a good alum cutting burr from work. a dremel would work but its quite a bit of material that needs removed. better to have a good burr for alum and lots of air pressure and put the hurt to it. a burr with less teeth works best to cut the soft alum. a finer tooth cutter is for steel and alum will get stuck on it. and will do a crappy job

i was suprised at how much needed removed. on pen a paper the jump from stock 58 mm to 70mm doesnt seem like much, but when u actually look at the size of the TB its ALOT!

i just took an extra gasket i got, put it over the 4 studs on the intake, spray painted the part i needed to grind and hogged it out. mine actually came out a little bigger than 70 which wont hurt a thing, went back and made it a smooth transition to where i had just cut and where it wasnt., then i took a 120 grit flap wheel and smoothed it out a bit.

shouldn't the explorer be like a 65 though? so I won't have as much material to take off I would assume. thanks for the info, I'll keep you updated

i believe so, so u wouldnt have as much to take out.

and i ran it once soon after i got the engine in, was in poor tune and ran the same as before, timing and FP was way off and was down on power. i got things tuned out finally and its running super strong, i will try and make it back once racing starts up again, am hoping for at least low 13s
