Why are so many celebs seemingly using the N word lately? What gives?

It is only wrong to use that word if you're white.

Everyone else is able to be racist and most of the time it is acceptable in the public's point of view.

There's the answer to this threads question. And it's 100% true. There's too many hippies involved in everything in this country. There was something on the news last year about some college that had diff groups of people that got together. The groups were all of the same race. There were asian, japanese, african american, mexican, and a few others. As soon as they found out that there was an all white group, all of a sudden it was racist and they got expelled. There was nothing done about the other groups.

The point is if everyone keeps treating that word like that, It will still have the same meaning. Even though there hasn't been slavery in years.

The worst part is all of the people that complain about had nothing to do with slavery!!! Just because there great great great aunts and uncles were alive when it was going on it bothers them???

C'mon people, get a life. The word has many diff meanings. It all depends on how it's used. As long as rappers keep using it in thier songs it will never die.

I could keep going on about this subject but I don't want to turn this thread into a race war. There is no diff in race. Everyone is alive and kicking. The only diff is some people work for a living and others steal or cheat the welfare system.

I didn't read through all the replies but I don't think so many more people are saying it now as opposed to how many get away with and aren't crucified for saying slurs about whites. It's a joke. Al Sharpton and the other race orginizations that cry about that stuff need to go jump in a lake and fight for better causes than a word or level the playing field.

I will say that people in general should stop using the word. The more blacks continue to use it, the more others will want to use it. So we(im half black) are working against ourselves.

But guys, dont put the "white slurrs" on the same level as the "N" word...yes. They are both negative. Yes they are both slurrs. But they hit different "memories" or "historic events". Yes slavery was long ago, but u also have to realize how many whites still think the same way that people did back during the times of slavery.

Being mixed i can see on both sides of the line....i know plenty of whites that are not even a tiny bit racists, they are genuinely good people. If they used to word in "conversation" it might not bother me. But i do know of people who are CLEARLY racists, and they are against me. Even though my mom is white, im still insuperior. Them using this word will cause a lot of anger...along with a lot of other things they could and do say. People dont know celebrities on that level so they assume the worst out of my two examples above.

The best way i can put it is something more general but i think people can relate......you can talk about your mom, sister, brother, dad or cousin. But if someone you dont know or who isnt close to u does it, then there is a problem. Its kinda like people feel "entitled" to talk ***** about their brother and that u cant do it. Blacks feel the same way. They can use something negative against eachother if they want....but other races cant because u arent in their inner circle.

I grew up in a black community, so it was "ok" for me to use it. But i bet with my same black/white background, if i grew up in a white community and went to hang out with some black kids, it wouldnt be ok. Because im not in their "inner circle".

Whats funnier is i dont look black...or white....i look middle eastern if anything lol. So people who dont know me often give me funny looks.

At the end of the day, the last thing the black community needs to worry about is who is using the word. Its clear to me that racism is still alive, its just not as "in your face" as it used to be, and with that said the racial slurrs will continue.

I'd like to say most of us think us to be equal, but there are many people who still feel blacks are a race that is insuperior, and many blacks see this every day. So that is the small chunk that keeps the sensitivity of the word high. So even if it is a small percentage saying it, it gets generalized to the whole race. The problem comes when blacks assume a white person will be racists and they arent. Its just one big circle of confusion.

Take away racism and i bet the sensitivity of the word will go away soon after.

Didn't the NAACP bury that word in a ceremony about 2 months ago?

Simple as that...the word has no meaning anymore. I don't use it simply because it's got no place in my vocabulary, but I also don't let it offend me either. It's simply a term used, and the world is far far beyond the level of ignorance that created that word in the first place.

It's 2007, ladies and gentlemen, a word is about as powerful as a Kia at a Mustang meet.

"Everybody's a racist. Except for me of course, 'cause I'm black."

That reminded me of this...
(most of you are going be like WTH is Paul posting when you click on this link, but give it a chance and listen to the lyrics and I know you will laugh, and yes I admit I love this show! Its like an adult version of sesame street.)

I personally feel that the word has no place in society anymore. It only exists because people allow it to. That being said, I also feel that even merely discussing it, and racism in general are counterproductive in trying to end it. It simply brings it into the spotlight and the focus generally does become black vs. white because historically, that's where the problems lie. In more recent history than slavery, there were Japanese that were sent to internment camps during World War II and there was great hatred for all Asians at that time, but it seems to be all but forgotten at this point. Yes, there was still segregation until the 1960's, but even the Civil Rights Era was nearly 40 years ago, but it seems that for every step made nowadays, two steps are taken backward by someone like Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton. In my opinion, Black America needs another strong leader to step forward like Dr. King, so that progress can finally be made, and until then I unfortunately think the hatred will continue to exist.
