Explain why it is better, in your opinion, to get bolt ons for 30+ rwhp rather than a supercharger for 150+ rhwp.

who ever said it was better? I was pointing out that your original post was incorrect on the numbers you listed.

Its a person's own car and their own money, I say let them do what they want. Just dont **** it up and turn it into a ricer mobile.

Lots of people above are questioning my thoughts and calling this thread "worthless." You said I was so wrong, but only on teh numbers? So in principal you agree?

Why is n/a safer? You mean safer for the engine?

Seriously, most people spend thousands on mufflers, midpipes, pulleys, throttle body, cams, etc., for what, a grand total of 25 rwhp if you are lucky? Might as well save your money and plop out teh $4k for a supercharger. Sure, it won't perform optimally until you get a few bolt ons, but teh 100+ rwhp gain will leave 99% of cars in teh dust. Am I missing something?

I know you will find this diff to believe but this question has come up before

See my sig to discover how I solved my personal dilemma

You will have to decide for yourself what direction to take your car in. Research and understand, then do what you have to do.

Not to get into a large mechanical/engineering/ etc etc discussion, FI on our engines takes a great tuner to handle large amount of HP on the stock engines. N/A is more reliable usually.

That is probably the highest I've seen for boltons, but I've only had my stang two months. How much you spend on all that?

Well to get that HP, lets see. And note you can spend ALOT less on this stuff, but I bought good products.

JLT= 150
TB= 180
plenum=140
E Water pump= 300
U/D pulleys= 140
LTs=500
X pipe=200
Catback= 350
VT stg 1 cams= 549
windage trey W/ gaskets= 100
Tune=350
Chip I bought well before tune (wasted money really)= 325

About $3300. If you get stg 2 cams + 200 for springs, you would make about 300 or maybe a hair more.

Now with EVERYTHING including rims, gears, tubular K member, shifter, ect...I spent about $5500. Basically id have a bone stock GT with a 9PSI KB on it + then would need a tune from MPH =600. Then you will want gauges to keep an eye on everything (good 2-300) Im guessing it would make about 365RWHP cool. Hot on the street would be closer to 350. By the time you dial in the KB and get everything safe you will probably be looking at around $6500. Plus my car would weigh around 3500 vs 3250 now.

I honestly dont think it would be much faster, id say it would trap 110-111 if I was lucky. Would run like a stock terminator. (they go 106-111 down here...and they may be modded) So im happy with the way I went . I have a good looking car that stands out and is pretty darn quick.

i like the way my exhaust sounds for starters...

wont a s/c be around 4.5k to 5k depending on make with the install and tune? kb 9 psi s/c's say they boost up 65% which would add anywhere from 139.xx-152.xx hp judging off a +/-10 hp interval on a solid stock 225 rwhp GT which would produce 354.xx-387.xx hp total if you play the numbers game...

im sure you would have more hp gains but id imagine that the cars would run close to the same investing 4.5k to 5k on bolt ons/suspension mods/tires b/c it would handle & shift better than a stock GT w/ just a s/c

Good analysis. Maybe you are right. Personally I am doing a coil-over suspension swap first, along with a shifter. Them probably teh Vortech.

It is better, IMHO, to install parts one at a time, and make sure they work properly before slapping on another. If you already know that it takes bolt-ons to make the most out of a blower, why would you think it is "better" to put on the blower, then get around to prepping the car for it?

Other people's cars are their cars. They can do what they want with them, and I can like it or not. But it would be rude for me to suggest that someone who gained ~60hp from NA bolt-ons did something dumb by not shelling out far more money they might not have had. And typically, anyone who went the bolt-on route can still slap on a blower if they want, and put to shame all those who sprung for a blower on a stock car, with a safer tune to boot.

Wow, this seems like a very touchy subject for some people. I don’t think the original poster is knocking you N/A guys, he’s just trying justify spending $$$ for not so impressive gains.

If I didn’t buy an NPI car I would have gone straight for the mongoose kit. Next I would do suspension and build the rear to withstand hard launches.
