Why do PRO-M meters have so many problems???

I've heard the only difference between the Fox bodied and 94/95 meters was the flanged housing for our cars. The electronics are identicle. Is there any truth to this?
Yes, that's true. And the electronics are similar enough with newer ones that you can easily make one from a newer Mustang work fine. A 90mm Lightning MAF is a relatively popular upgrade because it's a fairly inexpensive way to get a big MAF.

Could you get any meter like a 80-90mm from a Lightning or a 80mm for a 99GT lets say, take the electronics out, send it to Pro M for a calibration for a 95GT for 24 pds injectors ? Would that work ? I'm so confused with that mass air meter stuff. :nonono:

I got mine direct from Pro-M when they were running their colored mafs on a close out sale.

Don't know but they might still have some left.

Wasn't the sale on the colored meters like 6 months ago? I doubt they have any left. :)

I've never heard of any consistent problems with Pro-M meters except the aforementioned 75mm Bullitt when used with 24# injectors. The 77mm and 80mm meters seem to work great! With C&L however, it seems like you're taking a gamble. For every person that says their C&L works great, it seems like there are 1-2 people that have had problems out of a C&L.

Without at least an intake OR full exhaust I don't think you'll see a noticable gain. I would rather spend that money on opening up the exhaust or putting in some different gears. If you do the meter now, you will have to spend at least 100 bucks to get it recalibrated for the bigger injectors you're going to need for the s/c.

I bought a 75 pro m and it was giving me check engine light immediately. i plugged it in to a snap on scanner and got the live voltage while the car was running and found out that it was too little, that is what the code was for, low mass air voltage, so i called prom and they told me to run grounds all over because the batt was in the trunk, that did nothing, i sent it back and got another and it worked fine,. snap on scanner is really good for that because you can tune the voltage by rotating the housing while the car is running.

i went for the Pro-M 80mm in red....and will never switch my meter...EVER....i feel that the Pro-M 77's and 80's are the keeper meters....go with them and you will be satisfied...and are more than big enough to carry you further than most will ever go with mods.....and the 80 is cheaper cuz its plastic....

.....i also got mine direct from Pro-M when they were having the sale on colored 80's

This thread is interesting. I have had PRO-M since 1999, two 75mm bullit meters, one calibrated for 19lb injectors and the other calibrated for 30lb. I have had no problems in the least. I have also had a superchip for the entire time, perhaps it has saved me... or I have been lucky.

Jake,
I did notice a little bit with the 80mm....the mods i had at the time were 65mm TB, O/R X, and catback....i did the CAI the same time....i would check out Pro-M's site and see if they are still running the special on the colored 80mm's....cuz if they are id jump on it since it was real cheap......i dont wanna go quoting prices cuz im not sure if they are still that cheap...
