After a quick drive around (10-15 mins), the interior is almost as hot as it would be sitting in the sun all day. The heat seems to be coming from the general area of the shifter and console. The first day I had it (yesterday), it wasn't nearly as hot inside after a drive. Could it have to do with me unbolting the rubber shift dust boot and leaving 3 of the 4 bolts out?

Probably, a lot of engine heat channels down the trans hump.

I would imagine that the hot air coming off the radiator and engine finds its way down the trans tunnel also. The only thing really separating that from the inside of the car is the inner rubber boot.

That is more than likely the problem. Plus it is hot and humid as hell this time of year in the dirty south.

When I installed my new shifter, I got the old one almost off when I realized I didn't have anything to seal the new one on. So I bolted the old handle back on and drove to the parts store. There was incredible heat coming up through the hole, so I would say if you didn't bolt the boot back down completely that you would definitely let alot of heat inside the vehicle. Just my .02
