Why does the car want to die when you hit the brakes?

My brother just got a 91' Coupe, 5-speed, 306, GT40 heads, big cam, demon carb, power brakes, vacuum canister, no power steering.

Car runs strong, no problems, except when you get ready to come to a stop, when you hit the brakes the car acts like it wants to die, and sometimes will? It only does it when you hit the brakes? Anyone know where to start?

Any feedback is appreciated.

Die when sitting still and you hit the brakes? Once. Or when you hit them a bunch of times? When moving and braking? Float levels? Idle speed?
It doesnt do it while sitting still idling. It only does it when driving slow coming to a stop. Even if you only hit the brakes once. Not sure on the float levels right off, idling at 900 rpms.

Definitely check the float levels, you also may want to think about jet extensions for inside the float bowl. Wouldn't hurt to take the carb off to go through it and clean it out either.

My carbed 83 GT 5 speed had a dashpot, when it failed the car would die when you took your foot off the gas, brake or not...with the stock Holley 4180. Installed a Holley street avenger carb, ran fine without a dashpot.
