Why I'll Never Own Another 'Vert Again

It's a hydraulic system, kinda like your brakes. The fluid, in theory, should never go down if the system is properly sealed. However, in reality where you have bonehead engineers that thought it'd be cool to use cheap plastic tubing instead of copper or steel tubing, or even something as simple as freakin' rubber hose, that crap gets brittle and snaps/breaks and spews fluid everywhere, usually at very inopportune moments. I suppose it's possible that someone really crafty with a tubing bender and double-flaring tool could replace those plastic lines with brake line - or just do like I did and just replace it all with 5/16" fuel line and hose clamps - but what a royal PITA, y'know?

'Verts = teh suck. :notnice:

Something else I forgot to mention that I truly hate about 'verts: WIND NOISE. I mean, yeah, when the top's down, you get some noise ... DUH! ... but it's pretty pathetic that it's quieter with the windows DOWN than when the windows and top are UP. Seriously, you've gotta shout to the person sitting next to you to be heard when the car's all closed up ... even with a stock cat'ed H-pipe and Dynomax Super Turbo cat-back. :nonono:
with a new top and seals the wind noise is there, but it's not that bad. when I had the new top and rubbers put on the cabin noise went down about 70%. it's also great to know that all your hot air or A/C isnt rushing out huge gaping holes in the top or that water isnt going to get in come monsoon season. long story short a new top/seals and a set of subframes cured about 90% of my verts issues and made a whole lot nicer to drive. I think it's a shame that you are giving up on yours so easily. why spend another 2500 or so on another car when you can invest that in teh pervertable and it will feel/respond like a completely different car????
mebbe it's cause I really love the look of the 85/86 and yours looks awesome for a 20+ year old car, but I dont think you are giving it enough of a chance.
I bought mine as a four cylinder for $300 dollars and I had every intention of driving into the ground and the wheels fell off. about 8 months later I got a hummer of a deal on an exploder motor and a t5. this summer it's going to get the heart transplant and a few suspension goodies. even with the four banger the car gets plenty of attention and is a blast to drive. seeing as my prior ride was a 99 Z28 this is a pretty big statement. I hate the SN95's and new edges. i cant stand my wifes 02 gt, but there is something about the fox that I cant get over. I just wish I had more money to put into it.

Well...? I mean, if nobody's going to buy it for a reasonable amount (I'm not going to GIVE the thing away), and nobody wants to trade me anything worthwhile for it, I don't really have any other choice but to keep the friggin' thing (or burn it to the ground ... or push it off a cliff). If I do keep it, I'm pretty much going to NEED to put a new top on it at some point before winter, and then comes a slew of other wants/needs - new tires, heater core, radio, SFC's, '87+ intake and TB, T-5 swap, etc. ... at which point I'll have a freakin' ton of money into the thing. And don'tcha know it, inevitably, some tool (probably without insurance, or a Messican) will pull out in front of me after all that and just freakin' destroy it, and because it's an '86 with almost 200k miles, I'll be lucky to even get $500 for it, if even that much. :nonono:

I'm just sick of 'verts. Mechanically, an old Fox is enough of an attention whore, as it is, but being a convertible Fox atop that, it's like a second full-time job. Replacing tops, top motors, hydraulic lines, fluid, lift cylinders, seals, etc. ... AAAARGGH!! :bang: This is why I'll probably over prefer a Ford over a Lincoln, or a GMC over a Caddy - LESS FANCY CRAP TO REPAIR! :fuss:

Well, if that happens and you keep it then put all kinds of money into it, it'll end up being a pretty nice damn car, no?

... and if it's not daily driven, chances of it being destroyed are kinda slim.

I dunno... :(

Throw in an extra '86 'vert top and you've got a deal. :D

I'm just going to sit and twiddle my thumbs for awhile as I'm on "vacation" for the next week and a half. If I still have the same burning hatred for 'verts when I come back as I do right now, then I'll put the ad back up for the Pervertible and ditch that sucker however I can (within reason); if I somehow for some crazy reason actually find myself missing the thing ... meh ... I dunno. We'll see, I guess.

In the meantime, again ... 'verts = teh suck. :p

Wait... what?

Ive had that happen several times since the change. Makes me think im loosing my mind sometimes. But then I think you need to have a mind to loose it and then I wonder how I can think without a mind and then its like its mind over matter, if you dont mind, it dont matter. What are we talking about again

dont dis the vert till you have got to enjoy having a nice one. i never really wanted a vert. i always wanted a LX hatch. even though i said i didnt like it being a vert i loved it. and my dads vert. its all i got left :rlaugh: and i enjoy driving it. grinning from ear to ear.

ok im lame but anyway. if this would of happened last week i would of just gave you my old glass window from my vert i had left. but i gave it away last week.

So, when are you getting another Stang, Ryan?

I know of an '86 GT vert that's for sale.

:D

probaly spring of next year. my moms truck will be paid off when i turn 18 and my dad wants to buy a new GT vert when her truck is paid off so i may just buy my dads 86 off him then and he can use that money as a down payment. idk yet. depends on alot of things really. the sooner the better though.
